Take extra care to ensure that you are cutting to the accurate lengths and making square cuts. In this project all PocketHoles will be drilled using the 3/4" settings and 11⁄4"-long Coarse Thread Pocket-Hole Screws will be used. 1/2 5/8 3/4 7/8 1 1-1/8 1-1/4 1-3/8 1-1/2 KREG JIG® SETTING Pocket-Holes on the top and bottom of the Sides to attach the Face-Frame Note: Keep the holes at least 2 1/2" from the top. The Top Rail will hide them when assembled BUILDING THE BOX B 3/4" spacing allows for the back B Pocket-Holes on the top and bottom of the Sides to attach the Face-Frame Note: Keep the holes below the bottom shelf so they will be hidden once assembled 3. Assemble the top shelf to the sides (Parts 'A') as shown at your desired positions. The Kreg Right Angle Clamp is very helpful in this appication. B A Attach Shelves flush with front of the Side B 2. You’ll start by drilling PocketHoles in the shelves (Parts ‘B’) and Sides (Parts 'A') using the Kreg Jig settings as shown above. Place 3 Pocket-Holes on the ends and 5 along the side of the shelves and place two at the top and bottom of each Side piece. These holes will be used to attach the Shelves to the sides and the face-frame. A Use 11⁄4"-long Pocket-Hole Screws with Coarse Threads To get some help making face frames, view the SkillBuilder™ section of our media center on "Kreg Joinery™ for 90 Degree Panel Joints" View from back side BUILDING THE BOX 4. Now you’ll attach the shelves at your desired locations. Assemble all shelves with the pocketholes placed towards the bottom as shown. 5. With all of the shelves securely joined to the sides, you can now drill all of the Pocket-Holes into the back (Part 'H') as shown to the right. Spacing isn't critical. 6. With that done, you now join the back into the shelving and sides assembly. With the bookcase laying face down, place the back into the assembly and drive screws. Use 11⁄4"-long Pocket-Hole Screws with Coarse Threads H Bookshelf Project Plan E LAYOUT THE FACE-FRAME 7. Using the box assembly, mark your layout for the face-frame (Parts C,D,E,F) . Mark the face-frame rails (Parts 'D') 1/8" above the shelves to create a slight lip on the shelf. D C C 8. Once you have your face-frame assembly marked, you can drill Pocket-Holes in your Rails, including the Top and Bottom Rails (Parts 'D,E,F') 9. With the Pocket-Holes drilled you can assemble your face-frame as shown to the left. Clamping your pieces ensures best success for flush joints. Use the shelf locations to mark the placement of all of your Rails including the Top Rail and Bottom Rail. TM Then, use the Multi-Mark to transfer the markings to your second rail. C D D Use 1 ⁄ "-long Pocket-Hole Screws with Coarse Threads 14 To get some help making face frames, view the SkillBuilder™ section of our media center on "Kreg Joinery™ for Frames, Facings or Panels" F Adding THE FACE-FRAME 10. Now, you can join the face-frame to the box assembly using the Pocket-Holes you drilled into the front of the shelves. Use 11⁄4"-long Pocket-Hole Screws with Coarse Threads If you cut your rails proud of 33", flush trim them now I J MAKING THE TOP 10. Drill your Pocket-Holes in the Top (Part 'G') as shown to the right.Spacing is not critical. G I 11. Now, you can join the edgebanding for the top (Parts 'I', 'J') To get some help making face frames, view the SkillBuilder™ section of our media center on "Kreg Joinery™ for Edgejoining" 12. Next, attach the top to the bookcase assembly with a nail gun or Kreg Screws. FINISHING UP 10. With the assembly finished you can add the bed molding and the base molding to your bookcase. To get some help making face frames, view the SkillBuilder™ section of our media center on "Crown Molding Installation" 11. Finally, you can stain or paint your bookcase as you desire.
