She has competed in over 25 national and international competitions including Rio Paralympic Games 2016, Para-Pan-American Games 2015, and London Paralympic Games 2012. At the age of 15, Katarina was the youngest Canadian swimmer on the Beijing 2008 Paralympic team. Since 2005, Katarina has continuously broken National records along with world records in the 200m Butterfly and 1500m Freestyle. Katarina has not only made her hometown of Kippens, NL proud but the entire province. Katarina truly embodies what it means to be a community hero by demonstrating to children and youth that with hard work and dedication you can achieve great success. Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador is thrilled to invite Katarina to deliver the keynote address at the 2017 AGM and conference. Community integration is a component within the model of therapeutic recreation practice whereby clients apply what they learn in treatment to successfully participate in community activities. This session will explore the process of therapeutic recreation, how therapeutic recreation can be used in a community setting, and how we can work better together in improving the quality of life for those we serve.
