Star Teacher: An Interview with Mrs. Monger All About Mrs. Ryan
By Mackenzie Bruce
Mrs. Monger is
a student teacher here at
B.E.S. and she is currently
attending Northern Kentucky University. She is assigned to Mrs.Brueck’s fifth
grade Language Arts class.
I had the privilege
to interview Mrs. Monger.
It was very nice to sit down
and have a conversation
with her. I asked her if
she liked being a student
teacher, and she replied, “I
do, Boyd E. Smith is a great
school to student teach at.”
I then asked her
what grade she would like
to teach. She told me she
would like to teach second
or third grade, “I would like
to teach special ed or math
for general ed.” Mrs. Monger would like to start her
teaching career at Milford
School District.
I then asked her,
what made you decide to be
a teacher? She replied, “I
really enjoy being around
kids. I really like working in
the education community.”
I also asked her why she
would make a good teacher.
“I always try to look at the
positives and I get along really well with kids.”
“Mrs. Brueck has
taught me so much that I
couldn’t learn in a college
classroom.”
According to Mrs.
Monger, all of the staff
at B.E.S have been really
welcoming and kind to her.
Mrs.Monger told me that
teaching was her lifelong
career dream.
I think that Mrs.
Monger would make a great
teacher from all of the information I gathered from our
conversation.

Animal Spotlight: Remembering Harambe Staff Spotlight
By Mackenzie Bruce & Lucy Boggs
As many of you know one of the
gorillas at the Cincinnati Zoo died after
a tragic incident involving a child. This
was a sad day for many of the people at
the Cincinnati Zoo.
There was a three year old
who fell in the gorilla exhibit. The boy
crawled under a barrier and fell fifteen
feet into the exhibit’s moat which was
one foot deep.
They did not tranquilize the
gorilla because it would take several
minutes to work and the child was in
great danger. Also, the dart might make
the animal angry and more agitated
endangering the child even more.
The four year old was taken to
the Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The Zoo staff were relieved to hear
the young boy was OK. I was very sad
when I found out this happened.
A couple weeks after this event
I visited the Cincinnati Zoo and there
were many workers standing near the
exhibit, making sure this type of event
does not happen again. The day Harambe died was a very sad day for all of the
staff and the community members.
If you would like to learn more
about how to help gorillas like Harambe
you can visit the Cincinnati Zoo’s official website. Once there you’ll find
information on how to adopt a gorilla,
collect cell phones for recycling and
more!
