Harnova- When questioned regarding his handling of the gelding in particular during the
early stages, J. Graham (a) explained he was under no specific instructions on how to ride
Harnova other than to position where comfortable, but he anticipated settling just behind the
pace. J. Graham (a) added after beginning well he rode the gelding forward but passing the
1100m elected to ease, and allow Apollo Eagle to cross as he was of the opinion that runner
would lead the event. J. Graham (a) further added when Apollo Eagle allowed Ellie’s Encore
to cross near the 1000m, it left him racing midfield and further back than anticipated. Trainer
Mr N. Godbolt confirmed the instructions issued but expressed disappointment in how far
back Harnova was during the early stages in particular when the pace of the race was only
slow. J. Graham (a) agreed with stewards in hindsight he had erred by allowing Apollo Eagle
to cross near the 1100m when the pace of the race was only moderate. J. Graham (a) was
advised this ride would be referred to the apprentice rider’s advisory panel.
