Our fertilizers are derived from: - organic matter (of biological origin) which allows for a gradual release of the nitrogen content to the soil, making for improved soil fertility and for a complete, balanced nutrition of cultures; - minerals (macro, meso and micro-elements in assimilable forms). www.fertben.it FROM 1968 GENERAL CATALOG WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE FERTBEN GRANULAR FERTILIZERS Most Italian soils are alkaline, as they have a Ph value higher than 7 considered the neutral point value, whereas most cultures take advantage of slightly acid soils (Ph value below 7). When the soil is more acid, this generally improve crop’s germination performance, increases transplant-stress resistance and improves the radication process that let the plants better absorb the nutritional elements necessary. Mineral elements (which are divided in micro, meso and macroelements) are unfortunately difficult for the plants to absorb , because of their scarce mobility, plants’ uptake capacity being often influenced by alcaly pH value (arboreal fruit cultures). The expertise gained along its over 40 years of existence, the continuous efforts towards quality and innovation of the management have allowed Fertben to position itself as a leader in the production of acid forming reaction granular fertilizers. To determine the rate of organic nitrogen contained in a fertilizer means to find out the amount of organic matter needed to produce it. Whenever having to choose a fertilizer we should pay more attention to the elements contained, starting Nitrogen to establish the rate of organic Nitrogen contained by an organic-mineral fertilizer is preconditionary to determine the capacity of the organic matter to interact with the mineral components, by modulating their release to the soil which results in the optimizing the nutritional uptake of crops. The sole use of organic matters do not guarantees the same result, as animal dejections, when used as fertilizers induce a mineralization process that is simply too fast to guarantee the right balance with the mineral fraction for a prolonged time. The more the organic matter contained, the longer will the slow-release effect last. On the contrary, when the content of organic matter is scarce, the release of nutrients will last just for a limited time. We consider a 2% rate of organic nitrogen on the whole product Fertben mineral-organic fertilizer (which corresponding to 20% on the whole of the organic matter contained) to be fundamental to get substantial results. Proteic leather hydrolizate, dry blood and the compost of animal horn and nail have proved to be the best materials to obtain the right protection of the mineral components. The chemical Nitrogen fraction of the fertilizer is derived mostly from ammonia salts, being such form more resistant to nutrients’ leaching. Phosphorus, another essential element necessary to sustain many metabolic functions of cultures, have to be present into the soil in an uptakable form. Since its availability is strongly conditioned by the degree of solubilization of soil’s phosphatic components, a high rate of Phosphorus Pentoxide (provided it is soluble in water and neutral ammonic citrate) is fundamental to determine the uptake of this element. Potassium, is scarcely conditioned by insolubilization’s related problems, due to the high solublity of its inorganic compunds, but it has to be used carefully, especially when applied to chlore-sensible crops (tobacco, fruit bearing cultures, vegetables). In some cases, it is necessary to evaluate if it comes wholly from Potassium Sulphate (low chlore content), from Potassium Chloride, or from mixed salts, which use cannot be excluded - provided it is made correctly. For these reasons, Fertben’s products are equally classified according to the raw materials from which they originate. This classification needs to be considered by the user in its choice of the most suitable products for each culture. The endowment of nutritionals is completed by balanced quantities of Mesoelements (Calcium, Magnesium, Sulfur) and Microelements (Boron, Cupper, Iron, Zinc) differently apportioned according to the differents needs of each culture. They can be used as well to prevent or to recover from deficiencies. Some of our Lines of products are enriched with valuable materials such as natural Zeolites, usable as substratum for seedling and vegetable growing. Due to their chemical structural forms these materials have high cation exchange and selective absorption properties which are complementary and synergical with organic matter, allowing for a modulated release of nutrients and lower leaching loss (i.e. the loss of water-soluble plant nutrients from the soil, due to rain and irrigation.) Finally our range includes some colour-dyed formulas, color dyeing makes the products more easily recognizable and it is completely safe both for the user and for the environment. Colour dyeing can be available upon client’s request. WHY JUST GRANULAR FERTILIZERS? Granular shape makes the products uniform and easy to spread. Ball-shape limits granules’ friction reducing risks of breacking and subsequent powder formation during storing, handling and spreading. Moreover, the process of granulation is one of the few ways to guarantee the complete interaction between the two components : organic and mineral. On this premise, slow-release fertilizers can create the best agronomical results, because of their gradual rendering of their nitrogenous component, they can nourish crops during all the phenological stages. As it is specifically intended to limit useless losses of nutrients and repeated applications, the use of these products represents a clean, eco-freindly and a saving way to fertilize. In order to get a bolstered effect, Fertben employs calcium umates for the Green slow Line and introduces two innovative products: GREEN SLOW N20 and GREEN SLOW N38. ZEOLITE: WHAIT IS IT? The term “zeolite” (from ancient greek zein, “to boil” and lithos, “stone”, literally “boiling stone”) was coined by the swedish scientist A. F. Cronstedt after observing that upon heating one of these rocks , it produced large amounts of steam from water. Natural zeolites form where volcanic rocks and ash layers react with alkaline groundwater and are characterized by a very high ion exchange capacity. As the same time they are highly hygroscopic, as they are capable to attract and hold water molecules from the surrounding environments and dehidrate almost completely. Zeolites can act as water moderators, in which they will absorb up to 55% of their weight in water and slowly release it under the plant’s demand. Zeolites crystallize in post-depositional environments over periods ranging from thousands to millions of years in shallow marine basins. Zeolites have a porous structure that can accommodate a wide variety of cations, such as Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and others. These positive ions are rather loosely held and can readily be exchanged for others in a contact solution. They have a microcrystalline structure formed of cavities and intercommunicating channels. Zeolites are the aluminosilicate members of the family of microporous solids known as “molecular sieves.” The term molecular sieve refers to a particular property of these materials, i.e., the ability to selectively sort molecules based primarily on a size exclusion process. This is due to a very regular pore structure of molecular dimensions. The maximum size of the molecular or ionic species that can enter the pores of a zeolite is controlled by the dimensions of the channels . ZEOLITE APPLICATIONS IN AGRICULTURE 6 Thanks to the above properties, zeolites can meet several interesting applications in agriculture, both simply used or added to fertilizers during the productive process. Through its addition to our products (organic mineral fertilizers on organic keratinic base represented by hydrolized leather) , it is possible to achieve several important results: 1) The capacity of the fertilizer to render gradually its nutrients combined with zeolites results intensified , this limits furtherly the losses due to leaching or/and retrogradation. 2) The ion-exchange capacity results enhancedì, favouring the absorbtion of the macro and micro elements that are present into the soil in forms unavailable. 3)Water retention is strenghened, this permits to have more water and more aration available to the soil, limiting environment stress situations connected to the elements. 4) Soil’s heavy metals’ retention capacity is increased : their absorbtion by plants is thus reduced. 5) Permanent structural improvement of soil fertility; zeolites regenerate by themselves mainteining their characteristics unchanged . This engenders an equilibrated nutrition along the different phenologic phases, that bears advantages, both quantitative and qualitative in terms of an increased resistance to environment’s stress conditions and to diseases. The acid reaction (pH 4 /– 4,5) optimize the absorbtion of every element contained in the formulated product permitting the plant ito absorb elements which are preexistent in soil but in unavailable forms. Seeds germination and radicle growth are sustained by an acid pH environment. ORGANO-MINERAL GRANULATED CROP SPECIFIC FERTILIZERS PHYSIO-NUTRITION OF CEREALS The object of fertilising is making the applied nutrients fully available to the plants . When we talk about cereals, the seed, until 20 days after germination, cannot really absorb any nutrients from the soil, as it gets its provision from its own substances, so during this phase any chemical fertilizers’ applications represent risks (i.e. phosphorous insolubility and nitrogen leaching). Then, after this time the crop needs a good quantity of phosphorous to sustain radication and subsequently to avoid the problem of lodging. In the following phases the nitrogen’s uptake gets substantial (Green Slow N 20 and Green Slow Priapol N 38). FERTBEN has for this purpose created a range of different granular formulations that are entirely available, obtained exclusively by chemical reaction, they are not simply fertilizers blends. Each fertilizer’s granule contains in itself all the mineral nutritional elements and the organic matter protecting the product from rapid leaching risk and it carries in itself in proportion the slow release nitrogen, for crop nutrition and soil fertility maintenance. These are acid forming reaction fertilizers useful to favour nutritional elements’ uptake and to condition the release of those macro and micro elements that are formerly present in the soil but in unavailable forms. ZEOLITE: WHAT IS IT? The term “zeolite” (from ancient greek zein, “to boil” and lithos, “stone”, literally “boiling stone”) was coined by the swedish scientist A. F. Cronstedt after observing that upon heating one of these rocks , it produced large amounts of steam from water. Natural zeolites form where volcanic rocks and ash layers react with alkaline groundwater and are characterized by a very high ion exchange capacity. As the same time they are highly hygroscopic, as they are capable to attract and hold water molecules from the surrounding environments and dehidrate almost completely. Zeolites can act as water moderators, in which they will absorb up to 55% of their weight in water and slowly release it under the plant’s demand. Zeolites crystallize in post-depositional environments over periods ranging from thousands to millions of years in shallow marine basins. Zeolites have a porous structure that can accommodate a wide variety of cations, such as Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and others. These positive ions are rather loosely held and can readily be exchanged for others in a contact solution. They have a microcrystalline structure formed of cavities and intercommunicating channels. Zeolites are the aluminosilicate members of the family of microporous solids known as “molecular sieves.” The term molecular sieve refers to a particular property of these materials, i.e., the ability to selectively sort molecules based primarily on a size exclusion process. This is due to a very regular pore structure of molecular dimensions. The maximum size of the molecular or ionic species that can enter the pores of a zeolite is controlled by the dimensions of the channels . ZEOLITE APPLICATIONS IN AGRICULTURE Thanks to the above properties, zeolites can meet several interesting applications in agriculture, both simply used or added to fertilizers during the productive process.
