Introduction
The gospel is the good news that you are not alone in
this world. Jesus is always beside you—even when you can’t
see or feel Him. Sometimes He touches you through the
hand or hug of another person, and as you get to know
Him better you will begin to recognize it when He impacts
you in this way. He longs to be with you, listen to you, and
fix what’s broken in your life. He also wants you to know
that He’ll be coming back soon for you and all His other
friends here on earth. As you begin to look for His presence
in your life and in the lives of those around you, remember
that miracles do still happen and that yours will come
when you need it most—maybe not when you want it, or for

everything you would like—but when you truly
need it most.
There will be times in your life that you will feel lonely
or afraid. Everyone experiences these moments, so don’t
feel that you’re struggling alone. You can be sure that Jesus
cares for you deeply, and that He does not miss anything
that happens in your life. He created you just as surely as
He created Adam and Eve, the first people to live on earth.
True, He may not have formed you from clay or the dust
of the earth as He did Adam and Eve, but the Bible tells
us that He “knit [you] together in [your] mother’s womb”
(Psalm 139:13). God created you because He wanted
another special person to love, and He wants to live with
you forever in peace and happiness in heaven one day.

Seems So Far Away
Living with God in a place of peace and happiness
sounds good, but we are not quite there yet, right? God
understands this disjointed reality—struggling on earth
while dreaming of heaven. God sent Jesus to be with us,
help us, and guide us. Jesus stays close to us through the
person of the Holy Spirit, who helps us thrive, even in the
pain and suffering we face on planet earth. When God
created human beings, He never wanted us to have birth
defects or genetic disorders, and He never wanted anyone
to struggle with his or her identity or sexual orientation.
Satan created chaos and pain as a part of his plan to
destroy all humans and deprive Jesus of His beloved
children. He’s doing this to get back at God for kicking him
out of heaven (Revelation 12:7-17).

Many people today turn to alcohol, drugs, sex,
spiritualism, materialism, and other things that they think
will help them forget the pain and troubles that they
experience in this world. But turning to Jesus is the only
true way to actually deal effectively with the problems we
all face. Drinking, drugs, sex, spiritualism, materialism, and
many other ways of trying to cope with pain may numb it
temporarily, but Jesus is the cure.

Let Jesus into your life more and more each day. Learn

The Evil That
Surrounds Us
There is not a person who has walked the face of planet
earth who hasn’t been affected by evil. Almost daily, news
reports carry horrific stories of shootings and terrorist
attacks. We see the radical beliefs and ideas of many of
the perpetrators broadcasted by the media—sometimes
inspiring mentally unstable, fame-starved people in search
of a cause to “go ballistic.” Many are succeeding in creating
chaos, and they are doing so almost totally on their own.
Once obscure acts of violence and terrorism are now
commonplace, and they seem somewhat normal as our
world becomes unglued. We watch this modern-day reality

TV show on our evening news every day. It is the greatest
reality television show of all time.
Struggles with gender identity and sexuality are
rampant in a world that condones almost any sexual
expression between consenting adults. Morals and
guidelines formerly taught by religious and civic
organizations are now considered archaic and closedminded. Our world seems hell-bent on individual autonomy
at any cost—even our own self-destruction. Yet, even in the
midst of so much sadness, there are mission organizations
that minister to prostitutes, sexual abuse victims, and sex/
porn addicts whose lives have been ruined by gratuitous
sexual activity.

Birth of Evil
So, where did it all begin? Who started the “I want
it my way” attitude, “regardless of the consequences for
everyone else” attitude? According to the Bible it all started
in a land far away beyond the galaxies we know, in a place
called heaven which our imagination can scarcely grasp.
In this beautiful and peaceful land, all was harmony and
love until Lucifer, the noblest and highest-ranking created
being, decided that he wanted to be more than a beloved
friend of God; He wanted to become like God himself. He
nurtured this idea into a plan to take over heaven, and he
launched his plan by spreading the first bit of gossip the
universe had ever heard. This gossip was so completely new
and unimaginable for the sinless beings of heaven that they
didn’t know how to relate to it, or what to do about it. They

had always heard only truth. Having never heard a lie told,
some believed the gossip, though it confused them greatly.
Soon battle lines were drawn and war broke out in heaven.
The battle between Christ and Lucifer which engulfed
heaven began as a war of lies, far beyond anything that
even the slimiest politician or tabloid could cook up to
gain fame, power, and money. It is not difficult to believe
this story of a once perfect being whose pride and deceit
resulted in his expulsion from heaven—becoming the evil
nemesis of God and humanity known as the devil, Satan.
It’s Everywhere
We see Satan’s ways perfectly exemplified and
personified in the world around us with its evil regimes
and dictators, violence and suffering, degradation and

destruction. One need only look down through history
to see the record of unimaginable acts of evil. Make
no mistake about it: Evil is real, and so is the devil. Evil
surrounds us, and its creator is none other than Satan, the
father of lies (John 8:44). At one time the leader of the
angelic choir, Lucifer—the morning star—fell from his lofty
position. “How you have fallen from heaven, morning star,
son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth …
You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to the heavens; I will
raise my throne above the stars of God” (Isaiah 14:12,
13). Lucifer also added, “I will make myself like the Most
High,” (Verse 14).
Another manifestation of evil that convinces us that
the devil is real is the demonic activity we see in the world.
Not long ago at a high school where I help students run

a Christian club on campus, we found our club meetings
being visited by non-Christian students whom we had
never met before. Students were seeking us out because at
the time, the latest fad in our town was for teens to bring
Ouija boards to weekend parties. The boards were there
to conjure up supernatural beings as a way to make the
drinking, drugs, and sex happening at the parties a little
more interesting. The attitude of the partiers seemed to be,
“Live and let live,” “Do what makes you feel good,” and
“Try anything exciting that you can find.” Reality was a lot
scarier than they had imagined. The supernatural visitors
that they met, the ones possessing the Ouija boards, spelled
out answers to questions that no one could possibly know—
including the correct results of future football games and
other events.

I don’t know many other details of the demonic activity
witnessed by the students from our school. What I do know
is non-Christian kids started coming to our club with eyes
as wide as saucers, wondering what kind of supernatural
beings they had encountered.
If you have ever heard stories of those who travel to
remote places to share the gospel of Jesus, you know that
some people engage in black magic and demonic activities
of various kinds on a daily basis. The people in those
places see, know, and respect the supernatural powers that
are there. Many even commit themselves to the devil and
choose to serve him and his minions with their lives.
Stories of the occult and the devil come in various
forms from around the world and from radically diverse
cultures that have no communication whatsoever with

each other. The stories and eyewitness testimonies of
these events are so similar and widespread that there
is no possible way anyone could coordinate and
orchestrate such a pervasive lie. It couldn’t possibly
be a fabrication. The only rational explanation is
that evil is real and that the reports of evil are true.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark world and against
the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

The Jesus Intervention
Jesus was the One whom Lucifer rebelled against in
heaven. Why? Because Jesus, the Father, and the Holy
Spirit were planning the most amazing creation of all time,
and Lucifer was not included in the planning process. They
were planning the creation of humanity—you, me,
our ancestors that date back to Adam and Eve, everyone
living today, and everyone who will live in the future. Our creation was special because we were to be the
first creatures created in the very image of God. Angels are
great and incredibly cool.* The Bible states clearly that
we humans were made in God’s very own image (Genesis
1:27). That means we are special and dear to the heart of

God, unlike any other creation. It seems very likely that
this is what enraged the devil and caused him to rebel.
How so? Well, the first place we meet Satan on earth is in
the Garden of Eden, living in the tree of the knowledge of
good and evil in the form of a beautiful speaking serpent
(Genesis 3).
Temptation Comes
The serpent was charming, mesmerizing, and beautiful
on the outside. But, as we know, he was corrupt and evil
on the inside because of what he tempted Adam and Eve
to do. He tempted them with the same temptation that
had tripped him up in heaven, and the one that billions of
humans still struggle with today: He convinced Adam and
Eve to put their own desires above God’s clear guidance; he

tempted them with the thought of trying to become gods
themselves; he tempted them with the desire for power and
glory for themselves.
The result then was the same as it is today: Greed and
power lead to corruption and decay, because a little greed
and power always lead to a desire for more greed and more
power, and eventually people fall to numberless sins in their
quest for more and greater power. People who become
intoxicated with power also want control, money, sex, and
whatever else their corrupt hearts can imagine. All of this
separates them from Jesus, because sin cannot exist in the
presence of a pure and holy God.
In His love and mercy God sent Adam and Eve out of
His presence and away from the garden until all sinners
could be redeemed and re-created in God’s image. This He

did to restore our relationship with Him, so that we would
one day live with Him in the new earth after Satan and his
evil angels are destroyed in the fires of hell.
This story is not being told to frighten you into being
good or following God’s commands. Some well-intentioned
street preachers speak about the power of the devil in an
effort to get people to change their behaviors. All Christians
do not fully understand the gospel. This story is being told
to let you know that God created you for a perfect world.
He never wanted sin to happen, but because it did he had
to let the devil show the full extent of his ways so that
people could see him for who he really is. Once we see
the characters of both Jesus and the devil, we get to make
our choice of who we want to follow with our lives, and
ultimately who we want to be like for all eternity.
Here’s the really cool part of the story. The reason we
even have a choice between good and evil, following God
or Satan, is that when sin entered the world and Adam and
Eve made the mistake of choosing to follow the devil, Jesus
was prepared for that eventuality. Adam and Eve should
have immediately died for their sin (Romans 6:23), but
Jesus jumped in and said, “I will pay the price of sin for My
beloved children, because I can’t possibly bear the thought
of living all eternity without the special children whom I
have created for Myself. I would rather die Myself than lose
my children.”
This is also how we know that we are God’s children,
created in His image, because even with our fallen sinful
natures, we still have that desire to protect and save our own
children. This is also one of the ways how we know that

God is still with us. Even though it is often a struggle, we
are still capable of doing great good!
I like to call this the “Jesus Intervention,” because Jesus
intervened to save us, and He still intervenes in lives today
to inspire us to do good in a world sick with evil. Jesus is
loving and good, and you can read all about the details
of His love for us in His Book— the Bible. Start with the
Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), and go from
there to learn about His incredible love for you and me.

Waiting for Us
The best part of the good news about Jesus is that we
don’t have to wait for heaven to start spending time with
Him and start being transformed by His Spirit. Goodness
and love can fill our lives now as we choose to live for Him
by living with Him—moment my moment, hour by hour,
day by day—for the rest of our lives. Millions of people
throughout earth’s history have experienced amazing lives
by committing themselves to Jesus. Their stories are told in
books too numerous to name, but especially in the greatest
bestseller of all time, the Bible.

The Bible is the story of Jesus—His love for us, and
His intervention on behalf of humans throughout all time.
It’s the story of a loving Creator who intricately formed
humanity from the dust of the earth and gently breathed
into clay the breath of life, creating a living being. It’s the
story of Jesus face to face with the first human being, nose
to nose as Adam opened his eyes in wonder and disbelief.
I can only imagine that first conversation Jesus had with
Adam about who he was, where he came from, and who
was this loving God cradling him in His arms.
The Other Story
The story of creation and redemption is one that makes
infinitely more sense than an accidental explosion in outer
space inadvertently creating life that somehow morphed

precisely from cells in a sea of primordial goo into complex
humans that we are today. We are to believe that our
intricate world was created via billions of perfect accidents
that somehow turned out right. Evolutionists expect us to
believe that not only impersonal biologically functioning
ecosystems developed accidentally and coincidentally, but
also our innate need for love, acceptance, and belonging
in society.
When you sit down and think about all the incredible
claims of evolutionists and atheists, you realize that they
have an even greater faith in their beliefs than Christians do
in theirs. How so? The claims of evolutionists and atheists
have no evidence of truth in reality—unlike the visible
evidences that we are created in the image of a loving God.
There is absolutely no evidence that our world is continuing

to evolve and become more complex, sophisticated, or
better, as the theory of evolution proposes.
In fact, we have great evidence that the biblical story is
true, that our world was once perfect and now is continuing
to devolve, becoming increasingly debased with its
depravity as evil grows and destruction accelerates. Surely
anyone looking over the history of planet earth can see that
the human race is not getting better. We are self-destructing,
and many are predicting the end of the world via nuclear
holocaust, epidemics of super-diseases that can’t be cured,
or simultaneous destruction via the coordinated efforts of
thousands of terrorists and the chaos that would ensue out
of fear and desperation.

A Good News Story
The good news of the story of Jesus is that we don’t
have to give in to depraved human nature and participate
in the destruction of the people of planet earth. The good
news is that we can spend time with Jesus, allowing His
positive peer pressure to influence us for good and inspire
us to be better through the indwelling power of the Holy
Spirit. Yes, it is true that the devil exists and that people can
be possessed by demons and participate in the destruction
of planet earth; and it is also true that Jesus is real and that
people can also choose to be possessed by the Holy Spirit,
filled with peace and love, and given a desire to help our
world by sharing the good news of how Jesus saved us
with others.

Each person on planet earth has been given the power
of choice by our loving God—we can choose to believe in
Him or not. We can choose to participate in good or evil.
But the Bible is clear: If we choose to believe in Jesus, we
will one day experience an eternity of joy and peace with
Him in heaven and in the earth made new. If we choose
not to believe in Jesus and instead participate in evil and not
follow in His ways, then He will not have us suffer by being
with Him in His perfect world for all of eternity.
For those who don’t want to be with Jesus, they won’t
have to be; they will be allowed to cease to exist rather
than be with the one they refuse to believe in, or even hate.
Our God is a merciful God who honors our freedom of
choice. You don’t have to believe in Jesus or in God, but He

desperately wants you to believe and is right now sending
the Holy Spirit to convince you to believe.
The truth is that Jesus loves you and wants to live with
you forever and ever—in a world without end. But it is
also true that Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit will not
tolerate evil forever. When every person alive on planet
earth has had the chance to make their choice of whom
they want to follow with their lives, sin will be put out of
existence so that Jesus’ children won’t have to suffer from
the results of sin anymore.

Jesus can hardly stand seeing His children suffer at
the hands of the devil and his imps, but He is waiting just
a little bit longer in hopes that even a few more of His
children will make the choice to live with Him in love and
harmony for the rest of eternity. It breaks Jesus’ heart to see
His children suffering in this sinful world, but the thought
of permanently losing some of them breaks His heart even
more. And so He patiently waits.

How to Claim
the Good
You claim the good life that Jesus has for you simply
by choosing Him and spending time with Him. When you
spend time with worldly things, you become like the world.
If you watch violent movies you eventually see violence as
normal. If you look at pornography, you eventually stop
feeling guilty about engaging in sex acts with whomever
you find that’s willing, and your view of the gender of the
person with whom you engage in sex acts becomes lower
as they become mere objects of gratification. It becomes
common to despise the one you just took advantage of once

you have gotten what you wanted from them. And so the
vicious cycle goes and you never find true satisfaction—
whether you are chasing sex, drugs, material possessions, or
whatever else you think will make you happy.
Happiness can be found only in recognizing that we
need to get back to the way Jesus created us to be. He
created us perfect and with good desires, but when Adam
and Eve sinned, their nature became corrupt, their natural
desires became evil, and they passed that corrupt nature
down to us. So in order to find happiness, we must leave
behind what comes naturally to us and intentionally choose
Jesus and allow Him to re-create us—back to the person we
were at the beginning.

Re-creation
We allow Jesus to re-create us by spending time talking
with Him—just like you would to a friend. Tell Him about
your day. Tell him what you love and what scares you and
what your heart desires, and ask Him if the desires of your
heart are what He wants for you. As you listen for Jesus’
voice and for His answers to challenges you face, open up
His Book—the Bible—so that Jesus can speak to you.
Jesus will also speak through the still small voice He has
placed in your conscience. As you talk to Jesus and listen
to His voice, pay attention to the things He likes to do as
well—especially when you are reading the Gospels. When
you read the Gospels you are reading about Jesus during
His time here on earth. You will see the things that Jesus

enjoyed doing. That tells you the kind of things you can do
with Him today.
When you want to spend time doing something with
Jesus, you can simply do a modern version of what He
did in Bible times. However, before you go, ask Him to
go with you in the form of the Holy Spirit. Do things like
volunteering at a homeless shelter or helping a kid you
know who is having trouble with their homework. You can
spend time with Jesus cleaning up a park or helping out
around the house. You can help clean up the yards of sick
or elderly people who can’t do it for themselves. Any time
you are kind and helpful you are being like Jesus and doing
what He has called you to do.
Another great way to spend time with Jesus is by telling
your friends about Him, and what He has done in your life.

The next section of this little book will show you how to
do that—and trust me; it’s simpler than you think. Sharing
what Jesus had done for me is what really helped me to
experience a true change after I got burned out on the
college party scene when I was younger. Drinking, drugs,
sex, and partying didn’t make me happy in the long run like
the world said it would. It was fun at first, but I soon started
to feel so guilty that I could hardly stand myself any longer.
I eventually gave it up and decided to accept Jesus’ call to
follow Him and receive a life of lasting happiness and
peace instead.

As I started to follow Jesus I found that when I began
telling my friends about what He meant to me, He would
work through me to touch their lives. It was awesome to see
that my story gave people hope and happiness. Even today
the feeling of helping someone find true happiness and
meaning in a relationship with Jesus Christ is still the most
rewarding thing on planet earth to me.
Wouldn’t you like to share the good news of Jesus and
His love—the hope of a better life and a better world to
come—with someone you know and love? Wouldn’t you
like to make the choice to follow Jesus and help your friends

and family make that choice as well, so that you can spend
eternity with them?
Wouldn’t you also like to share this amazing news with
people that you don’t know? What better way could there
be to make new friends and help them to secure their
destiny with Jesus? This is the message of the first angel
spoken of in chapter 14 of the book of Revelation. I’d like
to tell you about the message of this angel so that you can
understand it and share it with everyone you meet.

Angel With a Message
The proclamation of the first angel is called the
everlasting gospel. “Gospel” literally means “good news.”
This “good news” gospel is everything that Jesus has done
for us. It’s also what this little book is all about. You can

share this good news simply by sharing what you have read
here. Here is an outline to help you remember the story
line, so that you can share it with everyone you love and
with those you meet in everyday life. Here are the four
simple steps to do that:

You begin a conversation to share Jesus with someone
by asking about challenges that they are facing in life, the
things that have hurt them in the past. You can also talk
to them about the evil things that you see going on in your
school or community. You may even open a conversation
by sharing some of the hurtful things that you have been
through in your life.

Some forms of evil affect us all, while other forms
impact certain cultures or generations more than others.
Start with some of the basics discussed in the first section
of this book, or with the things that are most relevant to
people in your hometown. Do not feel as if you have to
get really personal here. Some things can be too difficult to
share; Just try to share something meaningful with the other
person. When talking to someone you have just met on the
street, ask them for their input on what you have shared
with them if they seem open.

2. The Jesus Intervention
This is the fun part. It is always a joy to give someone
hope—to let them know that they are not an accident from
some cosmic cataclysm. When people start to understand

that Jesus really does love them, and that He created them
for relationship with Him, it can be life-changing! Review
the second section of this little book and summarize the
parts that you would like to share. Then, to make the most
impact share what Jesus means to you personally and how
He has impacted your life. The simple truth of Jesus’ love
shared with a sincere spirit and authentic smile can be more
convincing than the best laid-out argument or detailed
Bible study. Pray for Jesus to be in your heart, and then
share from your heart—it will change lives for all eternity!
This part should take just a minute or two. If it goes longer
and a deep discussion begins, run with it—let the Spirit
lead you.

3. The Incredible Good That’s Waiting for Us
Now you get to dream a little. Ask the person you
are talking with what a perfect world would look like to
them. Ask them about heaven and the world made new.
Many people can only imagine heaven as a place where
everyone is sitting on clouds strumming harps (because of
the caricatures they may have seen in cartoons and other
places), so it is often easier to ask people what would make
this world a better place.
As you share, try to dream out loud and imagine this
world after Jesus makes it new. Imagine all the dead plants
and trees coming back to life, and all the trash and waste
eliminated. Try to picture smiles on everyone’s faces and
laughter in everyone’s heart. Imagine the most joy you’ve
ever experienced never ending. With the help of the Holy

Spirit, dream the biggest dream you can of a world
made new. This could take several minutes if you get
really excited!

4. How to Claim the Good
In this part you get to share how to have a relationship
with Jesus. Help those with whom you speak to understand
that having a relationship with Jesus is a lot like having a
relationship with another human being. Carefully review
this short section of the book and put it into your own
words as best you can, mixing in your personal experience
and testimony. I’ve found that many people learn to open
up and talk to Jesus by simply telling Him about everything
they think and feel.

The more you help people to have a relationship with
Jesus, the better you’ll get at it. You will watch as the people
you have helped begin to walk, talk, and live as Jesus did.
That will be really, really cool!
Invite those you meet to your youth group meetings
and the outreach events that you plan. Give them a copy
of this little book and a Bible or New Testament, so that
they can begin reading for themselves. Be sure to tell your
