‘We Are At War’ Play
‘We Are At War’ was a school production that we
performed in the local Community Hall. It was
about WWII and was really shining some light on
the struggles that certain people went through,
such as a loved one deciding to leave to fight for
their country.
It was created by our high school, including; the
students, sixth formers and staff. One of our
teachers was director, partly helped out by some
sixth formers.
‘We Are At War’ was held at the Clarence Hall in our local town, on the 25th
to the 27th of February, 2015.
Each year, our school’s performing arts members produce a school play that
they perform either at the school itself, or in the local village hall. Every year,
our drama teacher pics a genre or idea for the play and our students go
ahead to create it. This year the topic is WWII when Britain and Germany
were at war; hence the title: ‘We Are At War’.
I interviewed Georgia, a year 8 student, and asked her some questions about
this year’s school play production and how she felt about it, seeing as she
was a part of the event.
 Georgia, did you enjoy being in the cast of ‘We Are At War’?
“Yes, it was very fun and interesting at times.”
The cast of the play create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is for all
year groups, so it is a great opportunity to meet new people. Because the
play is history based, they got to learn about the war too, so they did have a
bit of education during the fun event.
 Did you get the part you wanted?
“I guess so, I didn’t really want a particular part so yeah, in a way I
did.”
At they’re audition, they were able to write on a piece of paper a desired
character, (such as a specific person, or even just to specify if they wanted to
speak or not) but if they were thought more suited to a different part, they
would be put down for that character instead, but could also be put as two.
For example, they could have been put as a non-speaking part, but might
have asked to have a speaking part, so also be put down to have a
monologue.
 Did you ever get nervous before going on stage?
“Yes, before my monologue I always got very nervous because I thought I
was going to mess up.”
Georgia did a monologue on her own on stage, and they performed in front of
around 100 people each night, so it must’ve been rather nerve racking!
 How often did you rehearse?
“We only rehearsed once a week, but it when it got closer to the date;
twice, to get more practice.”
They started rehearsing for the play before the Christmas holidays, so when
it got closer to the date they practiced a lot more, because some of them
forgot how some of the things went after the holidays!
In my opinion, this annual school production is a wonderful event. Anyone
can join; it is open for all year groups, meaning it is a great opportunity for
year 7s to get to know the school and the people in it; including the pupils
and staff.
It was a pleasure interviewing Georgia and I’m sure she did great in her
monologue. Congratulations to all the cast, we look forward to next year’s
performance!
