3M™ Fiber Distribution System RFO
The 3M™ Fiber Distribution System RFO is the latest generation of fiber
management and distribution systems developed by 3M specifically for central
office, headends, data centers, remote huts and large MDU and building entrances.
The RFO provides a very high density consolidation point of fiber termination.
Its modular and totally integrated design allows it to easily expand and grow fiber
management one frame, one module or one fiber termination at a time to match the
unique configuration, application and timelines of each customer.
The RFO is a system composed of three major parts that can be added or swapped
to support different types of fiber construction, such as FTTx deployments as well as
traditional cross-connect and interconnect applications.
3M™ Fiber Distributor Frame RFO
The 3M™ Fiber Distributor Frame RFO is installed on a MDF (Main Distribution
Frame for copper cross-connects) type of supporting structure that is available in
different heights, up to 10.66 ft. / 3.25m for 1056 fiber ports on a real estate foot print

of 15.74 in. x 27.56 in. / 0.4m x 0.7m.
The RFO distributor frames are delivered pre-assembled and include installation and
grounding accessories together with all bend limiting fiber jumper routing (within a
same vertical or from vertical to vertical) and excess cable storage capacity.
Part of the RFO distributor frame is the ruggedized 3M™ Clamp Kit DECAM that
allows robust and rigid fixation and strain-relief for the OSP fiber cable end and
its break-out in 12-fiber increments as well as for routing tubes to each 3M™ Fiber
Cabling Block RFO and 3M™ Fiber Cassette RFO.
The RFO distributor frame supports the use of 2.0 mm patchcords with either
standard ITU G.652D fiber or bend insensitive (G.657 A or B) fiber.

3M™ Fiber Cabling Block RFO
The 3M™ Fiber Cabling Block RFO is an intituitive and craft-friendly, radius
protected high-density, low maintenance fiber management system.
The fiber cabling block provides full block-by-block modularity to configure to
most needs and pay-as-you-grow.
Its metal housing holds eight individual, ruggedized, hinged metal support trays
which provide:
• a robust and rigid stain-relief of the routing tubes coming from the 3M™ Clamp
Kit DECAM

Fiber Distribution System RFO
• coiling / storage of the routing tube slack
• support and positioning of the 3M™ Fiber Cassette RFOs
• routing of patchcords from the front (adapters) side of the fiber cassette to the
distributor frame
Each support tray swivels independently for minimal, adjacent fiber point
disturbance.
3M™ Fiber Cassette RFO
The 3M™ Fiber Cassette RFO or module is the heart of the 3M™ Fiber Distribution
System RFO.
All types of fiber construction can be integrated into the RFO fiber cassettes:
cross-connect, interconnect and optical components.
The various fiber cassettes can scale from 12 fibers and provide full module-bymodule modularity to configure to meet most needs in port density or custom
configurations.
The RFO fiber cassettes feature four distinct operation areas:
• strain-relief of the routing tubes coming from the DECAM clamp kit
• splice management: bare fiber coiling and splice holder for 12 mechanical or
fusion splices
• 900µm pre-connectorized pigtail coiling and management area under the splice
tray
• adapter front plate for 12 SC/APC connectors (other connector types upon
request)
The RFO fiber cassettes can swivel independently to easily access the
four operation areas.
They can be configured with one or two positions for optical components
(e.g. 1 x n or 2 x n splitters) for PON applications.
Factory-installed adapters and pigtails (each with an identification label ring) are
individually factory tested prior to shipment.
