Autumn Term 2012
NEWSLETTER
24 October 2012
Dear Parents
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your generosity. The amount of food,
toiletries and clothing that you brought in for Harvest Festival was quite
astonishing. Your donations were gratefully collected on Friday afternoon
by the London and Slough Run and will be distributed to those most in need
over the coming weeks.
As the girls start their half term break, I would like to thank them for being
such a delight. They have worked hard and overcome difficulties, both social
and academic. I continue to be very proud of them all.
It has been a pleasure to see so many of you at the Parents‘ Evenings held so
far this term. Please do contact me, however, if there are any unresolved
issues or if you simply wish to discuss your daughter‘s education at any
juncture.
On Tuesday 6th November, we will be holding our first Parent Partners‘
meeting of the year. The theme of Extra Curricular Activities is one we are
revisiting after a few years, as it is such an important part of Maltman‘s. The
Parent Partners have already been selected at random and contacted. I am
conscious, however, that there may be many of you who have thoughts on
this subject and I would love to think that you have all had an opportunity to
communicate these to me prior to the meeting.
As you know, I am very keen to listen to everyone within the Maltman‘s
Community as we strive to provide the best possible experience for the girls.
I would therefore invite you to send any thoughts on our Extra Curricular
provision by email to [email protected] or to write them down and
leave them with the School Office. As always, we will feed back to you all the
salient points of the meeting in due course.
I wish you all an excellent break,
Joanna Pardon

The Manor Netball Tournament 2012
On Wednesday 10th October, the U11 Netball Squad travelled to The Manor
School for their annual Netball Tournament. There were 16 schools present, and
in the first round there were 4 pools. Our team played some brilliant netball to
win all their games, putting them in the quarter finals. The girls won this match as
well as their exciting semi-finals match against The Manor ‘A’ team where they
were 1 goal down at half time but managed to pull the score back for a win of 4-3
goals. In the final, we were playing High March. It was a fast and furious match
which we just lost out on! With a final score of 5-6 goals in this tense final, the
U11’s came overall Silver Medallists out of the 16 schools. A huge well done to
the girls for their well-earned success!!

The Berkhamsted Netball Tournament 2012
On Saturday the U10 & U11 Netball Squads participated in the annual Netball
Tournament at Berkhamsted Prep. School. Both teams played all the other
schools in their age group over the morning.
The U10 squad started well winning their first game against Berkhamsted
U9’s, and then went on to be successful in 3 other matches playing excellent
netball against Haberdashers’ Aske’s, BPS U10 ‘B’ and BPS U10 ‘A’ teams.
They lost a game 2-3 goals to Beechwood school, who went on to win the
tournament. The final placing was not easy as we had equal points with them
as well as equal goals for and against. The 2 teams were equal so the organisers went to the match score which Beechwood had won! So they took 1 st position and we were the Silver Medalists!! The girls behaved very sportingly
even though they were disappointed to have come so close to winning. The
squad really did Maltman’s proud, and the standard of their play was complimented by others. Well done, girls!!
D Simmons
The U11 team also had a good start defeating Haberdashers’ Aske’s and going on to have wins against Beechwood Park and High March. In total they
won 3 matches and lost 3. The highlight was the match against High March as
the team made amends for the defeat by High March in the final at the Manor
Tournament last week, this time winning 5-2 with some very determined play.
Well done to all the squad!
