Picnics in City Parks
Picnics are permitted in all City of Walnut Creek parks unless otherwise prohibited by signs posted at the site. There are group picnic areas available for
reservation at Heather Farm Park and Larkey Park. All other picnic areas are
available on a non-reservation, first-come/first-served basis.
Permits for the reservable group picnic areas at Heather Farm Park and Larkey
Park require payment of the appropriate reservation fees. No unpaid
reservations are available.
Our picnic season runs March 1st through November 30th. Permits for the
reservable areas are available up to 120 days prior to the date of the picnic
event and must be obtained at least 5 days in advance.
Please contact the Recreation Office at 925-943-5858 for information
regarding vendor and catering regulations.
How to Obtain a Permit
1.
Check availability online, by phone, via email or in person at the Heather
Farm Community Center. Office Hours are Mon-Fri 9:00am-4:00pm.

Book online, by phone, or in person with full payment at least 5 days
prior to your requested picnic date. We accept cash, check (payable to
City of Walnut Creek), Visa or MasterCard. Credit cards must be used for
online bookings.
3.
If a reservation is granted, you will be issued a permit and all appropriate paperwork.

*If available, a sand volleyball court may
be reserved. The volleyball nets are
affixed to the poles. You must bring your
own volleyball. Picnic permit staff can
assist you with booking a court. Courts
are $30 per hour (I hr min, 4 hr max)
**Sports fields may be reserved for use

Amplified music, speaking, etc. may not be audible more than
On your reservation date, bring your copy of the Rental Permit
to your picnic site for proof of reservation.

The Recreation Division posts signage to notify others that you
have the site rented for the day, but we will not have personnel
on duty to enforce your permit.
After your event, clear and clean off picnic tables and BBQs,
placing all trash into the trash bins provided.

No vehicles permitted on the park paths or turf for loading/
unloading per WCMC 11-1.515, including large BBQs towed by
street vehicles.
The consumption of alcoholic beverages (beer & wine only) is
allowed at Heather Farm Park. Alcohol may not be served to
minors. Alcohol is not allowed in Larkey Park or any other City
parks.
Jump houses/inflatables are not permitted in City of Walnut
Creek parks per WCMC 11-1.201 and 11-1.402.
Stakes may not be used to hold down canopies, as they will
damage the shallow turf irrigation system. Alternatives include
adhering canopies to coolers, sand bags, water buckets, etc.
Glass of any kind is not allowed in parks.
Refund Policies
Directional signage may not be placed on trees, shrubs, city

Leash laws are in effect in all City parks & dogs are not allowed
on any City athletic fields per WCMC 11-1.507.
No person shall practice, carry on, or conduct any business or
profession or other commercial enterprise nor sell or offer for
sale any service, merchandise, article, or anything whatsoever
in any park except by permit issued by the Director and subject
to all other provisions of this Code per WCMC 11-1.511.
Park guests may NOT feed the ducks and geese per WCMC 111.506.
$25 SERVICE FEE for cancelations or changes made more than thirty
(30) days prior to event date. Refunds of any remaining balance may
take up to three weeks to process.
Permits are not transferable
All fees are subject to change without notice
A credit valid for one year (no refunds) will be issued upon request if
facility is not used due to rain on day of reservation (request must be
placed within one week of event date).
