Golden Rule 1
Most Nouns
Usually, when you turn a singular noun to a plural noun you just add ‘s’.
e.g. dog = dogs, house = houses.
One dog
Many dogs
Golden Rule 2
Nouns ending in ‘Y’: ‘Y’ to ‘ies’
However, it becomes a bit more complicated
when the singular noun ends in ‘y’. The rule is:
“Take off the ‘y’ and add ‘ies.’ ”
e.g. party = parties, story = stories.
Golden Rule 3
There are a few words that don’t follow this rule. They
usually have a vowel before the y. In this case just add
‘s’.
e.g. donkey = donkeys, monkey = monkeys.
Golden Rule 4
Unfortunately, there are some other words than don’t
follow any of these rules.
