Essay 3 - Many believe that a person is either “good” at
math or not. However, researchers have found that many
high achievers in math work harder and longer at more
complicated problems than lower achieving students.
Thus, they are not “good” at math as a natural ability, but
because they have developed their skills through hard
work and determination. In your essay, tell us about a
skill that you became good at because you worked harder
and longer at it than most people your age. What did this
effort teach you about yourself? (250-400 words) *

Recommendation Letters
You will need three (3) letters of recommendation. Letters
may come from your current teachers as well as your past
two grade level teachers. Two (2) must come from your
core subject teachers in English/language arts, science,
math and/or social studies. One recommendation letter
from an instructor of an elective subject (dance, orchestra,
robotics, etc.) or the leader of an extracurricular activity
that takes place in or outside of school. Tell these
recommenders what Wolverine Pathways is about.
Suggest that they view our website. Then ask them to write
a letter of 250-400 words that explains why you would be a
strong candidate for our program.
If your recommenders send you their recommendation as
an attachment in an email you may then download it onto
your computer. From there you can upload it onto your
application.
Please note that recommendation letters can either be
uploaded as part of the online application, or may be
e-mailed directly to [email protected]
(mailto:[email protected]). All
recommendation letters should include the applicant's
name, school, and either Ypsilanti or Southfield at the
top of the letter before the date and salutation.
Please also include this same information (applicant's
name, school, and Southfield or Ypsilanti) in the e-mail
subject line.
