Have students read the Make the connection section and make prediction about what they think will happen in the story . Have students use graph to make
prediction.
Explore:
Show a video segment of the Highwayman. Have students discuss if their predictions. Did the video confirm or disprove the predictions made? Have students read
Gentlemen of the road on page 257.
Explain:
Explain Topic versus Theme, Narrative Poems, review plot, character setting, rhythms, and explain how and why characters , events, and ideas develop and interact
over the course of a text. Explain cause and effect. Help students identify cause and effect connection by finding clue words and phrases.
Elaborate:
Students will read Part 1 of the Highwayman. Help students analyze poem by stopping and asking probing question, word meaning , figurative language, characters,
discribing setting and how it affect the characters.
Evaluate:
Play the audio version of the poem

Students will summarize Part 1 of the play.

Check for comprehension. Have students answer questions on page 254. Questions 1-6 . Go over Literary terms:metaphor, similie, and alliteration. Explain motive,
theme and setting, point of view. Help students understand meaning by using examples from the text book.
Elaborate:
Group work:Go over character analysis worksheet with students in class.Go Literary terms and definition and class examples . Have students complete assignment in
their groups.
Evaluate:
Have students complete the character analysis chart on their own by choosing their favorite character. Students will complete a facebook page for their favorite
character.
Writing Component and % of Informational Text:
The poem is told by a third-person-omniscient narrator who sympathizes with Bess and the highwayman. Write a one page essay in which you explore Tim's emotions
and actions, and consider how the theme of the poem would change if the story was told from T ims point of view.

takes about three days to complete all of the skills and assessments that apply. We will regroup on Monday to see where we all stand.
