Autism Spectrum Disorder, severe mood dysregulation,
ADHD, OCD and Tic Disorders as well as their concurrent
medical issues utilizing the latest guidelines and
treatment options as set forth in the 2013 Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM-5).
• Understand Idiopathic Short Stature, IGF-I deficiency
and SHOX gene haploinsufficiency to best evaluate the
short child with the appropriate work-up and be able
to communicate with parents about these conditions
and their management options.
• Comprehend the impact of the Affordable Care Act in
California and be better prepared to implement it into
their practice.
• Implement the correct diagnostic evaluation for the
treatment and/or referral for patients with celiac
disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatitis C
as well as other gastrointestinal complaints such as IB,
abdominal pain, rectal bleeding and neonatal jaundice.

coast, the Los Angeles Pediatric Society (LAPS) is proud to
present its 70th Annual Brennemann Lectures. This meeting
consistently presents relevant information in an environment
that promotes communication between faculty and

fellow professionals, LAPS firmly believes that learning is

Allergic Rhinitis: Controlling the Burden of Disease
Program Overview
Recognition and adequate treatment of allergic rhinitis (AR) is an ongoing clinical challenge in the United States. Patients with AR suffer
a great health burden in terms of symptoms and subsequent impact on quality of life (QOL). The presence of residual AR symptoms,
dissatisfaction with current therapies, therapy failures, and costs to the healthcare system have become issues at the forefront of AR care
after the recent release of several national surveys. Patient dissatisfaction with prescription nasal medications is particularly important,
as some healthcare professionals may overestimate patient satisfaction with therapy.
A best practice approach to AR care is rooted in the evidence that supports current clinical guidelines and offers patients a clear diagnosis
of AR, education about their condition, and personalized treatment, including effective therapy for their symptoms, follow-up to determine
adherence to therapy, minimal side effects, and adjustments in treatment as appropriate. Although current practice is not always aligned
with best available evidence, current data continues to support guideline recommendations for intranasal therapies as first-line treatment
for AR. Education is necessary to overcome these barriers to effective care of patients with AR. This initiative has been designed to
provide healthcare providers who manage patients with AR with ongoing education to optimize care.
