Sultan’s Super Liner:

HERE’S a truck that is fit for a
king — or a sultan at the very
least. This incredible
Australian-made custom Mack
Super Liner has been built for
the Sultan of Johor, with no
expense spared.
His Royal Highness Sultan
Ibrahim Ismail ibni Almarhum
Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj (his
mates probably call him Izzy)
was formally crowned in March
as the ruler of Malaysia’s
southern state of Johor.
He happens to love piloting
his speedboat and wanted
something special to tow it —
enter the Super Liner.
The base truck was built at
Mack’s factory in Wacol, Qld.
Custom truck specialist
Viking Trucks took over the
project at its Coolum factory,
where 30 craftsmen spent more
than 6000 hours turning the
regular Mack into a remarkable
machine.
The regal Super Liner is
fitted with a custom 89-inch
sleeper. The Viking team was
reluctant to fit a sunroof,
because these can leak. Instead
it fixed a massive flat-screen
television to the sleeper ceiling,
showing images from a camera
pointing up from the roof.
Working Wheels peeked
inside — no photos were
allowed — and it was like
looking into a royal residence.
There are a striking jarrah
sideboard and stone-top
kitchenette, a soft leather couch
that doubles as a bed, padded
leather walls (the hide was
imported from South Africa)
and a flat floor inset with LEDs
that change colours. There are
72,000 individual stitches in
gold thread in the leather trim,
including those that make up
the Sultan’s crest on the
headrests.
Viking used 72 litres of clear
coat for the 132 pieces of timber
trim — each was sanded and
coated six times.
There are two televisions,
two iPads, an Xbox and
PlayStation4.
Cleverly hidden away in
what looks like a secondary fuel
tank is the airconditioning unit
that controls the cabin climate.
