MLA Format: Parenthetical Citations
FORMAT
Introductory clause, “quote goes here” (Last name of author page).
EXAMPLE: Quotes by Dr. Thomas L. Constable:
Quote from page 7: “God spoke through His Son, so the need for a prophet no longer exists.”
Quote from page 1: “The book must have been written before A.D. 70.”
Quote from page 6: “He wrote to encourage Christians to persevere faithfully, so that they will
receive all that God wants to give them at the judgment seat of Christ.”
EXAMPLE: Correct parenthetical citation:
The book of Hebrews, addressed to Jewish Christians, was written “to encourage Christians to
persevere faithfully, so that they will receive all that God wants to give them at the judgment seat
of Christ” (Constable 6).
