All CWS Car parkers - we are requesting that whilst you are on CWS premises, that you keep your speed
limit to less than 20 km. It has been observed on several occasions, that some cars are entering/exiting the
CWS premises at high speed.
We have pedestrians, young children and Seniors on CWS premises at various times
throughout the day and we ask that all drivers exercise a safe speed limit to ensure the
safety of all.
Your cooperation in observing a safe speed limit on CWS premises is appreciated.

TENNIS COURT UPDATE
Game, Set and Match.....Almost
Good things come to those that are willing to wait, so
the saying goes.
This time last year we reported that the tennis court
repairs were resuming.
After a number of delays, some beyond our control,
we can report that the works are progressing to the
extent that completion is expected soon.
We sought assistance from our members and here
are some snap shots to enjoy.
On behalf of the committee I express our gratitude to you for stepping in and helping us help our society.
To get this far takes perseverance, cooperation, commitment and
community effort. It is reassuring and encouraging to see the
members take ownership. Pitching in with time and effort is great
and we also appreciate the loan of personal tools and
equipment.
A number of working bees have been conducted and more are
planned.
If you would like to be involved do not hesitate to contact a
committee person.
This will appreciated and relayed to the building sub-committee.
"Perfect" - Peter Materazzo and Kelvin On of Floor Grinding
N.T. are making great progress.
As soon as I have some dates
and times I will broadcast a call
for further CWS assistance.
Peter envisages that this will be
in the evening so weather wise it
will be cooler.
The next task will include the use of masking tape as part of the foam backing
strips to the slab gaps. (not unlike repairing fly screens). With members help
this will expedite the repairs and as shown by Quen Foo, Tracey Ah Toy- Chin,
Natasha Yuen, Aunty
Joyce Chin, Kayleen Yuen
and Phoebe Whelan, the
fairer sex is really helpful.
Aunty Joyce and Uncle
Kevin Chin demonstrate
how senior years don't
slow them down.
In the not too distant future we will be able to offer to
our society the more enjoyable aspects.
CHUNG WAH CELEBRATE
THE "HUNGRY GHOST FESTIVAL"
Last month on the 20th August, members of the
Chung Wah Society celebrated the "Hungry Ghost
Festival" as the Chinese have done so for the past
2000 years. This custom was conducted under
guidance by the acting Temple Officer, Mervyn Chin
who is a highly respected "Elder of the Temple".
Many thanks must go to Robin Lawrence for helping
in the preparation of the roast suckling pig.
TENNIS COURT UPDATE… cont.
The committee decided that we will apply a coating to the
surface. To this end the delivery of the paint will happen next
week so practise your broom and painting skills in preparation.
Investigation of the lighting system is also happening.

CHUNG WAH SOCIETY DRAGON & LION DANCE TROUPE – THE JUNIORS
CWS Junior Lion Dance activities continue to progress
steadily….
The intermediate group are currently training with the senior
members of the troupe and are working towards a combined
performance for the Moon Festival event in September.
The merged training sessions are intended to create a
different training environment for the intermediates: more
focus on individual skill development, improved fitness,
improved mental stamina, teamwork, etc – and for the
seniors: leadership development in areas of responsibility,
communication, organisation, and creative thinking.
Intermediates and seniors will be working towards a lion
dance extravaganza evening proposed for October. The
“Lion Idol” Event – not “lyin’ idle” event – will be a competition between lion dance teams who will be judged on specific
elements – including the “WOW” factor…Watch this space…
With the junior beginners group, developing general awareness of lion dance and dragon dance is continuing. At this
level, fitness, coordination, concentration and cooperation are at early stages of development. Technical skills are not
over emphasised. We are pleasantly encouraged by the continued interest and enthusiasm within this group.
The CWS junior dragon & lion dancers participated at the Parap Primary School Fete on Friday 30 th August. This was a
good opportunity to showcase our junior troupe – with some assistance from our seniors. Thank you to those who
participated and thank you to Parap Primary School for inviting us to perform at their event.

The Lion Dance troupe is on the prowl for new
recruits.
If you, or anyone you know, is interested in learning
Lion Dance, contact the troupe members or send an
email to [email protected] to find out
the next training time.
No previous experience is needed, anyone
dedicated and willing to learn is welcome!
