1. Why did you decide to pursue a real estate license and what did it

1.
Why did you decide to pursue a real estate license and what did it take to get said license?
“Real estate was always an industry I had a personal interest in – from the time I bought my first home at the age of 23. As the
market heated up within the last few years, I decided it was something I'd like to pursue professionally. I took the prep classes
over 2 weekends, studied the material for about month prior to the exam, and passed with flying colors.”
- Luciano Leone - RE/MAX Advantage - Age: 34 - REALTOR® since: 2012
2.
Tell us about how you interviewed with different firms and what did you ask?
“I interviewed with two offices, my biggest questions revolved around support and training. Since I was transitioning into real
estate after having had success in another industry, I knew that training and support was critical to succeeding early on. I
ultimately choose a broker who I had a personal relationship with, who had mentored me in my prior business, so it made
sense to lean on him in my transition to this business.”
- Gabriel Tavarez - ReBound Properties - Age: 34 - REALTOR® since 2013
3.
How did you prepare for a life in real estate?
“When I was taking my course, I was told that one cannot expect to be an instant success. I was working another job and felt
as though having real estate as side income would make me rich but the course instructor was correct. I saved up enough
money to last six months and told myself that if I did not at least give it an honest effort it would never work out. Within a year,
I won my first company sales award.”
- Matt Newhall - Century 21 Hughes Real Estate - Age: 29 - REALTOR® since 2006
4.
Why did you decide to start your own business as an independent contractor?
“After law school I worked in the legal department in a bank in the Financial District in Boston. It was such a miserable
experience and my boss was so horrible I decided then that I wanted to never work for anybody again.”
- David Kres - Buyers Brokers Only - Age: 36 - REALTOR® since 2005
5.
How did you initially find buyers and sellers to work with?
“The wisest thing I did was look for every possible opportunity and treated everyone I knew and everyone I met from thereon
as a possible lead, or lead source. The quicker you grow your database and stay in touch with people, the faster you will
achieve your goals. Make sure to help others get what they want first, and the rest will take care of itself in your business.”
- Sarah MacBurnie - Keller Williams - Age: 35 – REALTOR® since: 2001
6.
With your average age of a REALTOR® being 56, do you think that presents an opportunity for the younger generations
interested in real estate?
“Yes, this most certainly presents an opportunity for a younger generation interested in real estate. I am a real estate agent
but also a homeowner. My life experience combined with my knowledge of the real estate market makes me someone who
can appeal to members of my own generation. I am a real estate professional they can readily relate to; I have already done
what they are looking to do, buy a home or an income property.”
- Emily Tobey-DiMercurio - Tobey Seaport Properties - Age: 29 - REALTOR® since: 2014
7.
Have you experienced or witnessed the benefits of a team to new agents?
“Having the opportunity to be part of a team is the whole reason I decided to go into real estate when I did. Being able to rely
on, and be mentored by, an industry veteran has been critical to what I've been able to accomplish. A team can provide a new
agent with direction, education, and the support to flourish in the business.”
- Patrick Maguire - RE/MAX Advantage - Age: 29 - REALTOR® since: 2011
8.
Why Be a REALTOR®?
“As REALTORS® we are held to a higher standard of professionalism, bound by our code of ethics, a decision that we, as
individuals, make, not something that is required as part of the licensing process. This is what truly sets REALTORS® apart from
other real estate licensees. When someone sees the ‘R’ next to your name they know they are in good hands.”
- Amy Wallick- J. Barrett - Age: 30 - REALTOR® since: 2008
