Vision Statement
To cast ripples of imagination and expression. To
respect language, perspective, belief, identity and
human experience. All human experience.
To draw closer to one another.
To understand.
Statement of Welcoming
and Inclusion
Welcome to UntitledTown!
UntitledTown seeks to lift and enrich our brothers and
sisters, celebrating all forms and expressions of the
human condition. We welcome all races, religions,
gender expressions, sexual orientations, ages, national origins and abilities with open arms. UntitledTown
extends an inclusive and invigorating environment for
all–staff, volunteers, donors, sponsors, attendees,
featured speakers and vendors.
UntitledTown Book and Author Festival is the first event
of its kind in greater Green Bay, uniting readers, writers,
podcasters, storytellers, publishers, philosophers and allaround wonderers. It is our hope that this will become an
annual gathering that will continue for years to come. We
also hope to hold vregular events throughout the year and
to create new opportunities for sharing stories with our
community. Thank you for attending this inaugural event!
UntitledTown Book and Author Festival
A pale blue UntitledTown wristband, the sign of a registered Festival participant
What kind of festival is this?
With 83 events on 5 different tracks with more than 80 presenters
over 3 days in 12 different rooms in 7 different buildings—what kind of
Festival is this? It’s your kind of Festival. No two Festival experiences
are going to be the same (unless you’re joined at the hip with someone
special).
This program will serve as a guide, but it’s really a distillation of
untitledtown.org—where there is much more information about
programming, including links to author websites, detailed maps, and
schedules for each individual venue.
Start anywhere you like! Registration desks will be everywhere. Board
the trolley or go for a stroll, nothing’s very far, and don’t forget to enjoy
Downtown Green Bay!
Trolley?
It may be raining, it may be chilly, walking across the Fox River may be
too distant for some attendees. The UntitledTown Trolley (powered by
Breakthrough Fuel & Crystal Clear Resources) will circulate around
the Festival area, stopping as close to festival venues as possible. If you
want to board, you will need the wristband that you will receive when
you register.
Registration? But I thought
this was a free event!
There are a few reasons why we’ll ask you to take a few minutes to register—and yes, it’s free. The most important is that we’re planning more
events, and we’d like to invite you to them. The most reliable way for us
to reach you is by email. We may also be announcing a surprise pop-up
or two during the Festival, you wouldn’t want to miss out. Registration
also helps us collect the hard numbers required for some of our grants.
So registering will help us to fund next year’s Festival. Don’t worry! We
will be as vigilant about your privacy as we are about our own.
Where do I go? What do I do?
It’s very simple. At every UntitledTown venue there will be a registration table. We will ask you for your name, your email address, your zip
code, and other information. In exchange, you will receive a special
wristband that will:
1. Get you on the UntitledTown Trolley
2. Get you a discount at participating eateries and shops. The list will be kept up to date at untitledtown.org/discounts
3. Make you part of a group that loves words for at least a weekend!
Events for Young People
High Schoolers —Workshops and Readings
Events for Readers
On the schedule, readings and other events for readers—and we assume everyone’s a
reader in UntitledTown—are in blue and magenta. Blue is for readings and magenta is
our “catchall” category. Early on we called it ‘Performative’ and the name stuck even
though woodtype printing is only performative with a certain amount of poetic license—
which, fortunately, we happen to have.
We have dozens of authors reading their work, from Booker Prize and National Book
Award winners like Margaret Atwood and Sherman Alexie to authors whose names will
be new to you. But in UntitledTown we take chances on new talent; we like to experience
new things and to hear from new voices.
Workshops and Talks
For Writers
Events for writers are marked in red and yellow. Red is for the craft of writing, and yellow
is for publishing. The presenters that we have gathered represent many different aspects
of writing and publishing. Where else could you hear a panel with several New York
Times Bestselling authors speak about “Midwestern Gothic?” Or learn how to get past
writer’s block with insights from the world of improv comedy? Presenters will tell you
how to get started with National Novel Writing Month and what to do with your manuscript afterwards.
For those ages 14 to 18 interested in learning about creative nonfiction, be sure to check
out the High School Author Workshop: “Writing stories from your life” with Sandra
Shackelford at the Brown County Library, on Saturday April 29, 10:30 am -12:15 pm.
Also, be sure to stop by the Speak Your Truth (High School Authors Invitational Reading) at the Kavarna Coffeehouse, on Saturday, April 29, 1:30-3:30 pm. Registration is
required for those who wish to read their work, go to untitledtown.org.
Middle Graders—Workshops and Readings
Looking to practice your reading skills–AND have a love of pups? Stop by the Brown
County Library, April 29, 11 am-12 pm, for Paws for Tales: Reading to dogs with Dennis
Rockhill. After lunch, head back to the Brown County Library for the Skype author chat
with YA author A.S. King on Saturday, April 29, from 1:30-2:30 pm. Then, take the
UntitledTown Trolley to the Ask a Science Teacher event for young readers with Larry
Scheckel from 2:30-3 pm in Broadway Center/Old Fort Square.
Children and Toddlers— Author and Book Events
On April 29 check out Learning the Trail with Clifford the Big Red Dog at 10 am and 11
am. After this, stick around the Brown County Library on Saturday, April 29 for Storytelling with Dennis Rockhill at 10:30 and Jill Harding from 12-1 pm.
Don’t forget to come back to the Brown County Library on Sunday April 30 for Story
Time with Miranda Paul from 2-3 pm, and ¡Cuentos! Spanish and English Storytelling
with Sadarri & Co. at 3 pm.

Book Fair: Saturday
Afternoon & Evening
Broadway Center (FKA Old Fort Square) will host Green Bay’s first book fair. From 1
to 7 pm, booksellers, publishers, authors, and literary journals will be present with their
stock in trade. Confirmed vendors include Barrelhouse journal, Cream City Review,
Edible Door, as well as local publishers. Broadway Center will also host the launch of
Sheepshead Review’s new issue and several readings, including one of UntitledTown’s
most anticipated non-fiction authors, sports journalist Jeff Pearlman, who wrote
Gunslinger, the definitive biography of Brett Favre.

Keynote Event
Writer Michael Perry will be descending from his
pigfarm in Northern Wisconsin, we imagine in his
truck, to give the opening remarks of the Festival.
Michael is best known for his bestselling books
about life in rural Wisconsin and for hosting Tent
Show Radio. He will be speaking at Backstage at
the Meyer on Friday, April 28th at 5 pm. Best to
be there early! Perry will be followed by bestselling
author Benjamin Percy (who has thought more
about werewolves than any other living man) and
Storycatchers Live with Tara Pohlkette.
Capstone Events
UntitledTown’s Capstone Events begin at the KI Convention Center on Sunday, April
30th at 4 pm. Both VIP and General Admission ticketed seating, while guaranteed,
is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Get there early if you want to sit close to the
front! VIP passes, available at untitledtown.org, will put you in the section closest to
the stage and give you priority access to the book signing line.
At the Capstone Events, UntitledTown will be honoring a member of the community
for their lifetime achievement in promoting literacy.
In the quarter century since Sherman Alexie first
caught everyone’s attention, he has become one
of the best known contemporary Native American
voices in literature. He is the author of many short
stories, books, screenplays, and poems; but is
perhaps best known for Reservation Blues, The
Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, and
the film Smoke Signals, based on his story, “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven.” His
memoir You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me will be
released June 13th. He speaks at the KI Center at 4
pm on April 30th.
Margaret Atwood is one of the most talked about
authors of the year, and The Handmaid’s Tale—her
best known work—has been released as a television series. An author of children’s books, poetry,
short stories, and a recent graphic novel, Atwood’s
work often asks, “How long have we got? How do
we have to think and feel to change course?” Her
most recent novel Hag-Seed—released through
the fascinating Hogarth Shakespeare imprint—is a
modern retelling of The Tempest, the Bard’s most
speculative work. She speaks at 6 pm on April 30th
at the KI Center.
Festival Schedule
The schedule is very much the heart of UntitledTown Book and Author
Festival. As it made its way from scribbled lists to notecards, and finally
to a Google spreadsheet, it came to be as much a mission statement
as a list of times and places. We hope that there is something here that
will interest every lover of the written word.
Please note that there is far more information about these panels, talks,
presentations, readings, discussions, workshops, and other events on
our website (untitledtown.org) than we could possibly fit on the printed
page, even in 8 point type. So, set aside a little time for the website and
then chart your path on the pages that follow.
Also, note that all of the venues have limited seating & some of the
rooms are quite small. Our suggestion is to arrive early at any event
that really fires up your imagination—you may not be alone!
Finally, please note all of the gaps between events... As much as we are
in love with our program, the real festival is in those gaps! If you spy an
open room, feel free to gather in it, meet new people, or tuck away in a
quiet corner and read. UntitledTown is every bit your safe place. Who
knows what will come from an event that gathers Northeast Wisconsin’s literary community for the first time.
