Ms Carla Zarlenga will be walking the families through
the area sharing the philosophy behind such a
wonderful resource.
Dear Families,
What a great start to the year! The new playground in
the Preschool is finished; children and (staff) are
having a wonderful time discovering all the different
areas; from the
tunnel, the mudpit to the water
fountain there is
so much to
explore.
All classes have
been invited to
celebrate the
new outdoor
learning area.

Literacy Learning-Spotlight on the Early Years
Early years children are doing some exciting learning
in the areas of reading and writing. Reception students
are using picture clues and beginning sounds to read
within the first few weeks of starting school and other
classes are encouraging children to write; writing
stories and information which they then publish as their
own books. Imagine the excitement of publishing your
own book before the age of eight!
Decklan reads his writing back to Ms Danielle.
Decklan is writing a book about planes.

On Wednesday 1st March, 2017 the red building went on an excursion to
the Maritime Museum to learn about migration in the 1800s.
The students rotated between 5 groups and had the opportunity to climb
the lighthouse, take a ride on the Archie Badenoch, explore the Ketch
and learn about the journey people took when migrating to Australia and
explore the museum.
On Friday of Week 4, the red building took part in their bully busting day.
The students were put into 5 groups and rotated to different classes to
take part in various activities around bullying.
These activities included:
 Role plays to learn about how to be assertive
 Creating bully cubes, while using the grid of choice
 Drawing what students perceived as a ‘typical bully’
 Seeking help and reporting if someone is being bullied
 Being an ‘upstander’ rather than a ‘bystander’

On Thursday 6th April, we will have another exciting event
with Parker – the Reading Pelican. There will be lots of fun
activities to do with your child/children, as we are reminded of
the importance of developing early literacy skills with children.
We will send out more information about this event closer to
the date.
