Monday
Word Study: Students recognize that compound words are made up of shorter words.
Shared Reading: Students recognize that compound words are made up of shorter words.
Independent Reading: Students retell important events in a story.
Writing: Students demonstrate understanding of letters, words, and sentences.
Math: Students associate their birthdays with the months of the year and are introduced to the months, January,
February, and March.
Science: Students will use their sense of touch to observe and describe the physical properties of texture.
Social Studies: TSW be introduced to the meaning of a job. Students will add jobs to the classroom jobs chart and
understand the need for these jobs. TSW explain how the needs of the classroom are met through all students working
together.
Tuesday
Word Study: Students identify the short vowel sound for the letter i.
Shared Reading: Students recognize that compound words are made up of shorter words.
Independent Reading: Students listen attentively by making eye contact with the speaker.
Writing: Students generate ideas for writing and dictate sentences about their stories (pictures).
Math: Students review the months of April, May, and June.
Science: Students will use their sense of touch to observe and describe the physical properties of texture.
Social Studies: Students will be provided with a concrete visual image of the Constitution. Students will gain new
information about the story of the Constitution.
Wednesday:
Word Study: Students identify and sort pictures into conceptual categories.
Shared Reading: Students retell important story events in correct order.
Independent Reading: Students identify and manage barriers to good listening.
Writing: Students generate ideas for writing and dictate sentences about their stories (pictures).
Math: Students review the months of July, August, and September.
Science: Students will use their sense of touch to observe and describe the physical properties of texture.
Social Studies: The student will have a basic understanding of the Constitution. The student will determine that the
Constitution is the law and rules of our country and it ensures our freedom.
Thursday:
Word Study: Students identify and sort pictures into conceptual categories.
Shared Reading: Students act out and retell events in the correct order from a story read aloud.
Independent Reading: Students take turns and speak one at a time while sharing about a book.
Writing: Students generate ideas for writing and dictate their sentences about their stories (pictures).
Math: Students review the months of the year in song format.
Science: Students will use their sense of touch to observe and describe the physical properties of texture.
Social Studies: TSW develop an understanding of the meaning of flags as symbols of something larger. Students begin
to understand the meaning of the colors, stripes, and stars on the U.S. flag.
Friday:
Word Study: Students identify the sound for the letter t.
Shared Reading: Students identify the letter sounds for the short i and t and decode the word it in text.
Independent Reading: Students take turns and speak one at a time while sharing about a book.
Writing: Students share writing with others.
Math: Students create a book of the months of the year.
Science: Students will use their sense of touch to observe and describe the physical properties of texture.
Social Studies: Students begin to understand the changes the flag had undergone over time and practice using words
showing chronological relationships.
