Economic Benefits
Environmental Measures
Land Use and Access
Over the course of its operational lifespan,
Osum will invest $2.9B in the Taiga Project.
This investment will create jobs and income
directly benefitting Albertans, the Aboriginal
community and local businesses through the
contracts awarded.
Thanks to new technologies, the Taiga Project
will be one of the safest thermal developments in history. Facilities have been
designed to exceed government regulations,
providing double or triple back-up measures
to ensure reliable and consistent operations.
Community Support
Safety
The Taiga Project has earned the support of
the MD of Bonnyville, the City of Cold Lake,
the Town of Bonnyville and the majority of
Aboriginal groups with traditional land use
in the area.
Safety is the number one priority for Osum.
The contractor management program
ensures contractors working at the Taiga
site meet or are above industry-standard in
injury prevention and safe work practices.
The safety of employees, neighbours and the
environment is the responsibility of every
worker on the job site.
Aboriginal groups will always have access
to traditional lands because it is Osum’s
priority to develop resources in a way that
accommodates their needs. At any given
time, 95% of the total project area will be
accessible for traditional land use. Through
a progressive reclamation plan, well pads
will be phased and reclaimed during the life
of the project.
What Others
Are Saying
“ The MD of Bonnyville continues to
grow from projects such as (the
Taiga Project), offering employment
and economic wealth to the region.”
Ed Rondeau, Reeve, MD of Bonnyville
“ Over the past three years, Osum
has continued to build positive
relationships with the community
through open and transparent
communication initiatives.”
Craig Copeland, Mayor, City of Cold Lake

Water Usage Comparisons
The Taiga Project will be one of
the first thermal developments
to use zero fresh water for
steam generation. The water
used will be recycled using
state of the art water treatment
technologies.
Please note, these charts use the allowable limits
and allocations provided by the ERCB and Alberta
Environment and Water EPEA Approvals. Actual usage
and emissions numbers can be obtained directly from the
individual operators. Numbers for Osum are projections.

“ We are confident in the executive
leadership and management
team and their ability to build and
operate the project safely and with
the best interests of the community
and environment in mind.”
Sherri Bohme, Executive Director,
Cold Lake Chamber of Commerce
“ If approved, we believe that
the Taiga Project will have a
positive and far reaching impact
contributing to sustained economic
growth in not only our region, but
also in other parts of Alberta and
the Country.”
" As you are aware, the Metis as
an Aboriginal people take our
stewardship of the land very
serious as it has been the lifeline
for generations past and will be for
future generations. We have not
held back on voicing our issues of
the environment: clean air; water
quality; plants and medicines;
animal abundance and good fish.
Osum representatives have been
very conscious of our concerns."
Karen Collins, President, Zone II Regional
Council of the Metis Nation of Alberta
Ernie Isley, Mayor, Town of Bonnyville
