Economic Benefits Environmental Measures Land Use and Access Over the course of its operational lifespan, Osum will invest $2.9B in the Taiga Project. This investment will create jobs and income directly benefitting Albertans, the Aboriginal community and local businesses through the contracts awarded. Thanks to new technologies, the Taiga Project will be one of the safest thermal developments in history. Facilities have been designed to exceed government regulations, providing double or triple back-up measures to ensure reliable and consistent operations. Community Support Safety The Taiga Project has earned the support of the MD of Bonnyville, the City of Cold Lake, the Town of Bonnyville and the majority of Aboriginal groups with traditional land use in the area. Safety is the number one priority for Osum. The contractor management program ensures contractors working at the Taiga site meet or are above industry-standard in injury prevention and safe work practices. The safety of employees, neighbours and the environment is the responsibility of every worker on the job site. Aboriginal groups will always have access to traditional lands because it is Osum’s priority to develop resources in a way that accommodates their needs. At any given time, 95% of the total project area will be accessible for traditional land use. Through a progressive reclamation plan, well pads will be phased and reclaimed during the life of the project.
