Each day brings a range of new sights, people and activities. You visit Cape Town, Victoria Falls and Johannesburg. You join a four day, small group tour of the famous garden route. Day 1: Cape Town On arrival at Cape Town International Airport you will be met by an English speaking representative and assisted to the vehicle, before transferring to your hotel. Cape Town is one of the world's most picturesque tourist destinations and is a city offering a mix of attractions. Situated amidst majestic mountains and surrounded by pristine white beaches, the city is truly very beautiful. Day 2: Cape Town After breakfast you depart on a half day tour of the city. Highlights of the tour include: a visit up Table Mountain on the cableway where the various flora and fauna will be explained (the cableway ticket is not included as the mountain visit is weather permitting) which offers views over the city, the Malay Quarter, city centre, the historic Company Gardens (Dutch East India Company) and, time permitting, the Castle of Good Hope. Your hotel is an easy walk to the V&A Waterfront, the heart of Cape Town's working harbour. This area has become South Africa's most visited destination. Set against a backdrop of magnificent sea and mountain views, exciting shopping and entertainment venues are intermingled with world-class hotels and luxury apartments. Accommodation: Protea Hotel Breakwater Lodge (B). Day 4: Oudtshoorn This morning you depart Cape Town for the arid lands of the Klein Karoo. Your first cultural stop involves trying the local brew called Mampoer, or ‘white lightening’, which is a locally distilled brandy made from fruit. The Klein Karoo also specialises in the farming of a rather unique bird, the ostrich. You visit an ostrich farm and learn about how the ostrich assisted the South African economy during colonial times. You also have the chance to ride an ostrich. Then we make our way to the coastal resort of Knysna where you join a sunset cruise to view the habitat of the famous Knysna oyster, touted as the best oysters in Africa. Day 7: Johannesburg After breakfast you follow the coast towards Port Elizabeth. Your first stop is at Storms River where you can view the dramatically positioned suspension bridge at the Storms River Mouth. In the late afternoon you will arrive at the city of Port Elizabeth, overlooking Mandela Bay for your onward flight to Johannesburg (flight not included). On arrival at Hoedspruit airport you are met by a representative then transferred to the lodge within the Makalali Private Game Reserve. After a welcome drink and check-in you have time to freshen up in your room before lunch is served. Then in the mid-afternoon you take your first safari on-board an open safari vehicle, perfect for game spotting and taking photos. Days 9 - 10: Makalali Private Game Reserve This morning you will receive a wake-up call at 5.00 am before meeting other guests for tea and coffee at 5.30 am. After a cuppa you head out on your first morning game drive. The fresh morning air whilst travelling on an open 4WD and the prospect of seeing the ’big five’ (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, elephant) is an exhilarating experience. Experienced rangers and trackers will share their knowledge of the African bush with you as you enjoy a range of animal sightings. You return to the lodge in the late morning for breakfast. After lunch and some time to relax, you set off again around 4.00 pm for another game drive to experience the animals and African bushveld at dusk. Day 11: Johannesburg Enjoy a final morning safari drive followed by a full breakfast. After check-out you are transferred to Hoedspruit airport for your flight to Johannesburg (flight not included). Day 12: Victoria Falls After breakfast and check-out board the shuttle bus to the airport for your flight to Victoria Falls (flight not included). On arrival you are met and transferred to your accommodation. Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world. There is a magic about the falls manifested in the towering column of spray when the river is high, the thunder of the falling water, the terrifying abyss and tranquil lagoons upstream in which hippo and deadly crocodiles lurk. The falls are 1,708 metres wide, making it the largest curtain of water in the world. Remarkably preserved in its natural state, Victoria Falls inspires visitors as much today as it did David Livingstone in the 1860s. Great domes, pillars and bridges built on a man-made lake mark a style that belies the modern facilities within. The closest hotel to the mighty Victoria Falls, it is the perfect family destination with 294 rooms (70 with bunk beds), a food court, bars and the Makasa casino - one of Zimbabwe's finest and most attractive casinos. A five-minute walk down a footpath brings you to the Victoria Falls. Day 13: Victoria Falls After breakfast enjoy an informative guided tour of Victoria Falls. You will be accompanied through the rainforest by a qualified guide who will give a brief history of the falls and detail the flora and fauna. Raincoats are provided when needed. Following the falls tour you are taken to an authentic rural village approximately 20 km from Victoria Falls town. Here you have the opportunity to watch local villagers going about their daily tasks. The tour enables you to see rural life first hand; visiting rural homes, watching the villagers tending to their fields and going about their day-to-day chores, you may have the chance to participate if you wish. Day 15: Chobe National Park After breakfast you take a road transfer to your lodge over the border in Botswana. After lunch and some time to relax you enjoy your first game viewing activity before returning to the lodge for a starlit dinner. Accommodation: Chobe Safari Lodge (BLD). Day 16: Chobe National Park You enjoy two game activities today. These normally include a river safari on the Chobe River and a 4WD game drive into the Chobe National Park. A river cruise offers unique game viewing and bird sightings on the river and riverbank. Whereas a game drive includes up-close sightings in Botswana’s premier game park from the comfort of an open sided safari vehicle. The park is famous for its 80,000 strong elephant population and various species of unique wildlife. Accommodation: Chobe Safari Lodge (BLD). Day 17: Okavango Delta Today you fly into the Botswanan wilderness for a two night stay in the Okavango Delta. This pristine region offers unique wildlife experiences. Your lodge is located on an isolated island allowing only a small numbers of guests to enjoy exploring the surrounding waterways and nature. Dinners are served under a sky lit with endless stars.
