Club News
From the General Manager
Once again this year, we took care of some pretty significant capital projects in the first two months.
We replaced the rubber membrane that was original to the Clubhouse and covers a large portion of our
roof. Because we had savings in that project, and because the company that did the work was so good,
we engaged them to stick around and make highly necessary repairs to a portion of our large patio
outside of the function rooms. Several breaches were identified and expertly repaired. As a result, our
members who utilize the Fitness Center, and especially studios 1 and 2, won’t have to work out around
dozens of towels and buckets on the floor after rain storms. I will never promise that we are leak proof,
but at this point we are certainly as buttoned up as we have been in many, many years.
One of the goals given to me by the Board for 2016 is to lay the foundation for an updated strategic plan to be created in
2017. The Club’s last plan was published back in 2010, so the time has come to update it. One of the key tasks in preparing
for 2017 is to populate the committee with members. The Board will ultimately have final approval over candidates, but I
will do most of the legwork. What are some of the desired attributes of a strategic planning committee member? Of
course, first and foremost a member must be willing to commit their time to attending committee meetings and in all
likelihood doing some “homework” in between meetings. A member should also leave his or her personal agendas at the
door, and rather bring a Club first mentality. They should also be adept at seeing the big picture, and in the long-term too.
Strategic planning is forward thinking obviously, but while we shouldn’t be bound to the past we should be familiar with it.
So, while it isn’t an absolute prerequisite, I would guess that most members will have served some prior role in
governance, or at a minimum have a demonstrated knowledge of our business. I’m genuinely looking forward to the
process, in part because this plan will encompass a period (2022) when the Club’s primary long-term debt will mature.
There will be many interesting discussions about what that might mean for the Club.
Until next month, we will see you around the Club,
Bill Robinson
Message from Membership
In an effort to fill the remaining Full Golf memberships, we are offering a Full Golf Spring Fever Reliever
Membership Promotion through April 30. Please share the details of this great deal (included in the ad on
Page 4) with friends, family, neighbors and associates. To sweeten the deal, they will receive a $500
credit on their first statement with your referral (see coupon on Page 4). Limit one $500 credit per Full
Golf membership.
There are also a very limited number of Recreation openings for your non-golfing friends. I will be happy
to answer any membership questions that they may have and be available to give personal tours of the clubhouse at a time
that is convenient. If you’d like to spread the word electronically, please send me an email and I can provide you with the
information.
Dig out your bell bottoms and other 70’s attire and join us for the live disco music of Motor Booty Affair. It’s been a “gas”
in the past and we’re hoping to rock the clubhouse again this year (details on front page). Although this event happens to
fall on the last day of the membership promotion, this is a great event to bring prospective members so that they can check
out the Club for themselves.
Please help us grow our membership this spring by having your friends join the Club.

NEW SPIN BIKES ARE COMING!
Not sure if you have heard the exciting news, but this
year we are replacing our spin bikes with the Keiser
M3i’s. This is a great bike that shares the same
footprint as our old bikes, but with added features
such as magnetic resistance, Bluetooth capabilities and
are great bikes for beginners as well as the advanced
rider.
The new M3i gives consistency and accuracy that will
give both Instructors and riders the confidence they
need to really use power as a training tool in classes. The Keiser M3i introduces
intelligent cycling and the most technologically advanced indoor group cycle ever, the
Keiser M3i featuring Bluetooth wireless display. The new Keiser Bluetooth wireless
computer is certain to become popular with both riders and group exercise
instructors. The computer can transmit to a receiver for projection onto a screen
and can also partner up with a wireless phone or tablet.

From the Director of Golf
Taking golf lessons can be an expensive, time-consuming
effort. And like any good or service that costs money and
requires time, you should be careful before you buy.
Never forget: It's okay to shop around for a golf
instructor. Our staff of teaching professionals is just
that…professional. There should never be any issue if a
student changes instructors. We as instructors and
coaches want what is best for you and your game. Here are some things to
consider before you commit to golf lessons.
A golf instructor can do wonders with your game, but he can't do it alone.
To make golf lessons worthwhile, you must be able to follow up on them by
continuing to work on the instructor's suggestions on your own time. The
higher your goals, the more work will be required. Be realistic in your goals
and make sure you can offer the commitment necessary to meet those
goals.
Private lessons and group lessons are the two typical ways to receive golf
instruction. Both have strengths. Private lessons allow for follow-up visits
over a period of time-a building block approach to learning golf. Group
lessons are typically lower cost, offer an intensive amount of learning in a
short time, but can also offer too much information and without much
follow-up or one on one time.
Ask Around-Every golf instructor's best advertising is his or her past
students. To get an idea of the best teacher for your learning style and goals,
ask as many golfers as you know. It's likely that some names will come up
more frequently. This can be your starting point. You may find someone
who has taken lessons and can give a glowing recommendation on a
particular instructor.
Interview the Candidates-Yes; you really can interview golf instructors
before you commit to lessons. Remember-it's your business they want and
need. Ask your candidates about their teaching background and experience.
Do they use video? Do lessons include on-course teaching? What is their
teaching philosophy? This process should give you a good idea of how your
personality will match up with theirs, too.
Making the Choice-After these steps, you should be ready to make your
choice. It's important that you choose an instructor whose personality
meshes with yours. Going to a teacher you don't like will keep you from
learning. It's important that an instructor's goals match yours, and that your
commitment matches your goals. Once you've made your choice, throw
yourself into it - and watch your scores improve.
Yours in Golf,
Doug Van Wickler, PGA
