Dear Year One Parents, \ The Year One Team Mrs Jessica Cullen

Dear Year One Parents,
This term we continue to be busy
learning through our fun and hands on
activities during literacy and
numeracy groups. We are super
excited to be sharing our learning
with our parents helpers. Thank you
parent helpers!! Another highlight
this term was celebrating 100 days of
school and sharing our learning and
celebrations at our assembly.
In keeping with our theme of caring for our
local animals, we are learning how to write
information reports on our local animals. We
are exploring both fiction and non-fiction
books as we gather our facts to write our
reports. We have also integrated our writing
lessons with Technology and Enterprise by
presenting our reports through the picollage
app on the iPads. We can’t wait to show them
off at our Learning Journey! Along with
report writing we have been learning how to
write poetry, come in and take a look at our
acrostic poems, we love creative writing!
In Religion we are learning about
showing love and care in the many groups
we belong to. Along with belonging to a
family, the church and sporting clubs we
also belong to a school community. To
display our love and care in our school
community just like Jesus did in his
groups, we made cards for the Year Four
students, wishing them all the best for
their Holy Communion. We loved making
them feel special and loved through our
cards. Congratulations Year Four!

This term in numeracy we have been learning
all about money. Through our hands on
activities we know how to identify, describe
and order our coins according to their value.
Many of us are beginning to now add small
collections of coins. We just love our Year One
shop, taking turns being the shop keepers and
the customers. Learning is so much fun!!
We are now exploring graphs and the
different ways they display information. We\
have been enjoying surveying each other,
gathering and recording our information in a
tally table.
