SLCA SUMMER MATH SKILLS
FOR RISING 5TH GRADERS
General Skills to Review:
1) How to find missing numbers in addition, subtraction, division and
multiplication (pre-algebra concepts):
a) We find a missing addend by subtracting the known addend from the
sum.
12 + m = 31
b) We find the first number of a subtraction problem by adding the other
two numbers. We find the second number by subtracting the difference
from the first number. w – 16 = 24
c) We can find the missing factor in a multiplication problem by dividing
the product by the known factor.
7w = 84
d) In division problems, we can find the dividend, the number inside the
division box, by multiplying the other two numbers. We can find either
the divisor or quotient, the numbers outside the box, by dividing.

2) Fraction-Decimal-Percent Equivalents
There are three ways to express part of a whole. Student should be able to
change from one form to another.
3) Measurement Facts: Metric and U.S. Customary
Linear
Liquid
Equivalents
4) Adding and Subtracting Integers
Sketch a number line in order to add or subtract negative and positive
numbers.
