for Community Providers
About the program
Community EHR offers secure access to patient health records for providers who work outside
of the hospital.
Community providers are no longer required to have hospital privileges in order to access the
electronic health records of their Island Health patients.
Who can apply?
Physicians, Midwives, Dentists, and Nurse Practitioners who are currently practicing within the
Island Health region.
How do I apply?
Please contact Community EHR by email or phone to request an application package.
What is involved in the application process?
The application process includes:
Completion of an application form and Information Sharing Agreement
Confirmation of registration in good standing with CPSBC
Confirmation of professional liability protection
Confirmation of identity through two pieces of government-issued identification
One professional reference from an Active Medical Staff member at Island Health
Completion of a short PowerChart training session
What systems will I have access to?
PowerChart— PowerChart presents patient information to application users in the Power
Forms
PACS (InteleViewer) —This is the Medical Imaging Interface, used for viewing medical images
via IntelePACS Browser or InteleViewer
eHealth Viewer (CareConnect) — A patient-centric view of provincial information which is
accessible from within Cerner PowerChart and FirstNet. It provides authorized users with
secure, view-only access to clinical information from all health authorities in BC.
