Location and Area
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia lies at the furthermost part of southwestern Asia. It is bordered by the Arabian Gulf, Bahrain, United
Arab Emirates and Qatar in the east; Red Sea in the west; Kuwait,
Iraq and Jordan in the north; Yemen and Oman in the south. The
Kingdom occupies about four fifths of the Arab Peninsula, with a
total area of around 2,000,000 square kilometers.
Climate
The climate of Saudi Arabia varies from one region to another
because of its diverse topographical features. The Kingdom is
generally hot in summer and cold in winter. Major parts of the
Kingdom usually receive scanty amounts of rain in winter and
spring.
Temperature in Jeddah (Symposium Venue) ranges approximately
between 25°C and 30°C during the month of October.
Currency
The currency of the Kingdom is the Saudi Arabian Riyal (SAR), which
is divided into 100 Halalas. SAR is available in paper notes (five, ten,
twenty, fifty, one hundred and five hundred Riyals) and Coins (one
Riyal, fifty, twenty five, ten and five Halalas). The exchange rate is
approximately 3.75 Saudi Arabian Riyals per one US dollar.

Objectives
The main objective of this Symposium is to provide a forum for
the relevant authorities and global experts to promote knowledge
and exchange ideas and information that will enhance land and
maritime border security and safety at national, regional and international levels focusing on developing counter-piracy strategies.
Venue
Our event will be held in Jeddah, the spectacular Red Sea coastal
city known both for its rich history and
incredibly rapid transformation to a
modern urban center. Now approaching
four million in population, Jeddah is Saudi
Jeddah Fountain
Arabia’s second largest city. Jeddah is
famous for its lovely sea front. The city features landmarks such as
the Jeddah Fountain, Abdul Raouf Khalil Museum, Old City district
(featuring spectacular centuries old architecture), and Jeddah
Aquarium. The Jeddah Flagpole is considered the tallest in the
world. Jeddah truly has attractions for all.

The General Directorate of Border Guard works directly under the
Ministry of Interior, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is fully responsible for the security of the Kingdom’s land and maritime borders.
The Border Guard traces its
origin to monitoring centers
for the Saudi Arabian Gulf
coast established in 1331H
(1912 G). The Headquarters
of Border Guard is located
in Riyadh, the capital of the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Nine other regional headquarters spread
all over the Kingdom in various regions have also been established.
The Border Guard is mainly responsible for the security control of
Saudi Arabian borders on land and sea; security of the seaports
and vessels services; navigational aids; smuggling prevention; early
warning regarding any abnormal matters; and maritime search
and rescue. Its other responsibilities include guarding key installations, monitoring sea pollution, and helping wildlife conservation
on land and sea.

and safety issues at national
and international levels
including, but not limited to
the following:
• Fundamentals of Border Security and Safety – Concepts,
Challenges and Solution Approaches at national and global
perspectives.
• Security and safety of sea and land ports and protection of
critical assets.
• Security and safety of land and maritime boarders – Towards an
integrated solution.
• National, regional and international cooperation and its
effectiveness to enhance border Security and Safety – Past,
Present and Future.
• National and international legislations and law enforcement
impacts on border crime management – Experience,
Assessment and the Lessons Learned.
• The role of integrated technologies and advanced systems
in achieving the border security and safety missions and
improving performances.
• Management of maritime disasters and coordination of search
and rescue (SR).
• Focused education and training programs to prepare qualified
personnel with enhanced integrity, efficiency, and experience
through gaining scientific and operational skills to face the
challenges of border and national security and safety.
• Impacts of border safety and security on socio- economic
development.
• Any other topic relevant to the wide spectrum of land and
maritime border security issues including terrorism, piracy,
smuggling and other crimes.

Call for Abstracts
The Scientific Committee welcomes abstracts in English or Arabic
on different topics in line with the Symposium Theme: A homeland
that we don’t protect... we don’t deserve to live in it including the
major topics.
Please submit your abstract online through the website (www.
sbg-symposium.org) or email (attachment as MS Word document)
to [email protected] and/or [email protected].
Only abstracts submitted online or through email will be considered. The maximum length of the abstract should not exceed 300
words.
The Scientific Committee reserves the right to accept or reject
abstracts. The Committee may also allocate some abstracts as
posters.
The authors of the accepted abstracts will be invited for submission of full papers. The speakers of the papers that will be
accepted for presentation may be supported by the Symposium
organizers to attend and present their papers.

General Information
Language
The Symposium will be conducted in Arabic and English with
simultaneous interpretation.
Entry Visa
Participants who are non-GCC citizens and require a visa to
enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shall send a copy of the
relevant pages of their passport directly to the Chairman of the
Organizing Committee after confirmation of final acceptance
of full paper and/or registration for participation.
