Devices
Unit Goals/Objectives: Students will analyze literary excerpts to determine tone. Students will determine the
author’s purpose in cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts; Students will analyze famous speeches for
rhetorical structures and devices. Students will establish how author’s sensory language creates imagery in texts.
Students will analyze poetry, making inferences, drawing conclusions, and using evidence from the text to support
arguments.
