Dear Parents, Welcome to RES Publishing! In case you’re not familiar with this PTO sponsored committee, we are a group of volunteers dedicated to publishing a story from each of our young authors at RES. To reach this goal, we need your support. This is all you do: 1) Simply have your child dictate or write (please make sure it is legible), or type up his or her story. For Kindergarteners, First, or Second Graders, the story should be about 6-8 sentences long. The recommended theme for kindergarteners is “All About Me”. For Second and Third Graders, please encourage your child to write a story based on something that is special to him or her. Story length should be 7-10 pages (with room for illustrations). For Fourth and Fifth Graders, please have your child submit an original piece for publication. Story length should be 8-12 pages and be edited for spelling and grammar. Ideas for stories include: favorite hobbies, special family stories, favorite trips, what they want to be when they grow up, or any fictional story. These are just ideas – we love all kinds of stories! Please proofread the story before returning it to RES Publishing. We will correct spelling unless you tell us otherwise, but will generally leave everything else as is. 2) Complete the attached “About the Author” fact sheet. 4) The stories may be hand-written or typed. If they are hand-written they must be legible. If they are typed, we ask that you e-mail them back to us (it makes the typesetting a lot easier). 5) E-mail Janine Bowers ([email protected]) or return the story to your child’s teacher by January 27 for our first round of submissions. We will accept submissions throughout the year, however. 6) After we typeset it, the story will be sent back to your child in a kit for illustration, as well as with a request for a photo for our “About the Author” page! 7) After your child returns his or her illustrated book, we will bind it and return it to you to enjoy! That’s all there is to it. We know you and your family will treasure these laminated, “hard back” books for years to come. Feel free to e-mail us with any questions or if you are interested in volunteering! Thank you for your participation and support!!
