Parents we need your help with following the
school traffic pattern which is to always come
down Della Russo Way and not Roosevelt Street.
Exit the school yard by taking a left on to
Roosevelt Street to Washington Street. This
traffic pattern helps with the flow of the traffic.
DO NOT PARK IN THE MEDICAL BUILDING OR
BLOCK THEIR DRIVEWAY. Do not cut through
their parking lot with a car or walking. This is
private property. We need to respect their
request.

We have wonderful news to share. DESE’s 2016
Accountability Levels were released this week and
the Paul Revere School moved to a Level 1 school.
The school met the target for 4 out of its 5
demographic groups in narrowing the proficiency
gap. Working together as a team where parents,
teachers, and students collaborate and keep
communication open has helped to move us
forward. Let’s continue this great partnership.

Happy Fall! October is a busy month for the
second graders. In ELA we are learning about
character traits, main idea and details, irregular
plural nouns and collective nouns. In Math, we
will continue to practice place value skills and
addition and subtraction word problems. In
science, the children will have a visit from the
MWRA this month to learn about water
resources in our community as well as a visit
from the Saugus River Watershed Council to
learn about animal habitats.
The Second Grade Team ☺
Kindergarten is off to a great start! We are
getting to know each other and making new
friends. We want to thank the parents for
working with your child and completing
homework assignments when needed. Starting
this month, we will be implementing the Raising a
Reader Program. Be on the lookout for the “Red
Bag” and letter explaining this wonderful
program. Happy Fall!

Grade 3 News
Dear Families,
Grade 3 Families,
Welcome Autumn! Our first graders are
learning about the seasons and weather in
Science this trimester. In Social Studies, we
will be learning about the office of the President
and the duties of that job. We are also
preparing for our Veterans Day assembly on
November 3rd.
This month the third grade is continuing to learn
about multiplication and division. It is very important
the third graders are studying their multiplication
and division facts every night for at least twenty
minutes. Multiplication facts can be practiced
with flash cards, writing out facts on paper, or you
can quiz your children by stating facts and having
them answer. The third grade teachers are starting
something new with our students this year in math,
Number Talks. Ask your third grader about Number
Talks! Please make sure your children are studying
their Spelling list each week for the weekly spelling
test. Lastly, all three third grade classes will have
the Classroom Spelling Bee on Friday, October 14.
In math, we continue to work on addition and
subtraction math facts and problem solving.
Please remember that all homework is passed
out on Day 1 (refer to monthly calendar that was
sent home) and it all needs to be returned on
Day 7. It’s important that our students learn
about responsibility and being prepared for
school. Establishing good habits now will help
your child in future grades.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs. Marrone, Ms. Provencher,
Ms. Shluger, Mrs. Smith
Our reading centers are up and running. We
want to remind you to read with your child
15- 20 minutes each night and limit TV watching
and non-educational video games. Don’t forget
to fill in your reading log every night! If you
need book suggestions, please let us know.

Grade 4 News
As the days start to get colder, please make
sure that the students are dressed
appropriately for the cooler morning weather.
Remember that sweaters and sweatshirts that
2
Grade 4 and 5 created poems using Microsoft
word.
will be worn in the classroom need to adhere to
the school uniform code. We will be working on
multiplication for math, so study your math
facts! We will be working on finding key ideas
and details as we read and then using those
ideas and details as we write our open
responses.
Music
The Veterans Day concert is coming up on
Thursday, November 3rd. Songs can be
practiced at home by going to the website
www.mrglasermusic.weebly.com. Click on
Veterans Day at the top and you will see videos
for grades 1- 5. Have a wonderful October!

Dear Parents,
The fifth grade is full steam ahead and working
hard. In math our focus has been on place value
and will be working on learning the standard
algorithm for multiplication. We hope you are
taking advantage of the Pearson Realize and
Achieve 3000 online programs that you can
access at home. In science we will be learning to
study Earth Science: rocks and minerals and
weather. In Social Studies, we will be starting
Native Americans and Explorers.
Occupational Therapy
Strength in the muscles of the hands and
fingers increases steadily throughout infancy
and childhood. Hand strength is critical to a
child’s ability to use classroom tools efficiently
and to perform self-care tasks independently.
The following activities will promote hand
strength.
• Modeling clay, play dough, or silly putty –
poke it, hide things in it, roll it, and make
letters with it.
• Clothes pins – play with them, color them,
squeeze them, make things with them
• Punch holes in a card and create lacing cards
using yarn or shoelaces
• Tweezers – use tweezers to pick up all sorts
of things
• Wring out wet paper towels, face clothes, in
the tub
• Games such as Lite-Brite, Etch-A-Sketch,
and Colorforms
• Folding paper – making airplanes, boats, hats,
or cards
Mrs. Dupont
We appreciate your help in creating
accountability with your student to complete
their homework daily. Just a friendly reminder,
you can check their grades through Power
School.
Thank you,

Art News

The art room is off to a creative start! Some
grades created their own emoji’s to express
feelings through art. The art room welcomes Ms.
G as a student teacher from Gordon College. Ms.
G will be in the art room every Monday until
January. After winter break she will be with us
every day.
If your child makes an error while reading try
one or more of the following strategies to help:
1.
First wait and see if your child selfcorrects the error when s/he comes to
the end of the sentence. If the error is
self-corrected, give positive
reinforcement.
2. If the error is NOT self-corrected
when s/he comes to the end of the
sentence, gently say wait a minute…Did
that make sense? Read that sentence
again please.
Thanks,
Mrs. Williams
Ms. Johnson’s Class News
It has been a great beginning to our school year
in room 109. We are looking forward to baking
apples and study the seed of the apple. Also, we
are working on our letters and sounds so that
reading and writing really begins to flourish. In
Math, we are continuing to work on addition and
will be moving into subtraction soon. The
students are continuing to grow independently
and academically in room 109.
