Heart to Heart Serving and ministering Jesus’ healing love to the medically uninsured in Saline County since 1999 A LONGTIME DREAM COMES TRUE (Church & Civic Groups: We’re Available for Presentations!) Thanks to a generous private donation, the support of the Board of Direc‐ tors, and a substantial discount from Ron Sherman Productions of Little Rock, CCCC was able to produce a video that beautifully describes the mis‐ sion of the Clinic. This has been a goal for many years. It is difficult to de‐ scribe the feelings that go into making the Clinic a success, but Shane Wil‐ son of RSP was able to capture the heart of the Clinic through the personal testimonies of our volunteers and patients. The video is available to churches, civic groups, or anyone interested in finding out what makes our Clinic so special. It may also be viewed from our new website: bentoncareclinic.com Call 776‐1703 for a free copy of this 5 minute DVD or request a presentation by one of our volunteers! Generations Have No Boundaries When It Comes To Volunteers and Supporters Gwen Simpson, Executive Director, is thrilled with the support CCCC has received from area young people. Young adults and teenagers are get‐ ting involved in fund raising activities, as well as volunteering their spare time to work in clerical, hospitality, and maintenance positions. Austyn Willis, along with husband Ben, has been volunteering in the pharmacy for years while also attending Pharmacy School and interning. She and Ben recently passed their State Board exams, and, instead of taking a bit of time off to celebrate, the first thing Austyn did was to sign Ben and herself up to cover pharmacist duties on Clinic nights. Gwen is most impressed with Austyn’s and Ben’s abilities to communicate their pharmacy knowledge to other volunteers as well as to patients. The two are great Christian examples to those served by CCCC. Ben’s loving and patient manner in instructing and answering patients’ concerns about medicines, even when the pharmacy is exceedingly busy, gives witness to pa‐ tients that CCCC truly cares about each individual... and Austyn’s smile and zest for life lights up any activity in which she is associated. Sarah Chilton began volunteering at the CCCC dental clinic to gain experience as she begins her journey to dental school. Her eagerness to learn has quickly made her an invaluable volunteer. She has especially been excited to get to shadow our regular volunteer oral surgeon, Dr. Ed Knight. While Sarah feels her experiences are a great blessing, CCCC was recently “saved” when a dental assistant had to cancel at the last min‐ ute and Sarah knew just what to do to help fill the void. Gar and Teresa Lile have been volunteering in the community for many years and have involved their children in as many projects as possible to instill that same spirit of giving. Sons Gardner and Garrett have helped with several projects and now the Clinic is being blessed with their daughter, Grace. Teresa, who serves on the Clinic Board of Directors, volunteers every Wednesday. When school is not in session, Grace comes along with her mother to do whatever is asked of her. She graciously dusts shelves, shreds documents, and does computer data input...and has even recruited her cousin, Anna Clay, to join her. CCCC has been blessed greatly as a benefactor of this caring and giving family. The Clinic was also blessed this summer with a young foursome of golfers who took top honors at the annual benefit golf tournament held at Longhills Golf Course. Many young teams participated, but this group was also the team who raised the most monies for the Clinic. Jacob Geurin, formerly of Benton, told his grandmother‐in‐law about the mission of the Clinic and she sent with him a check for $1,000 from her Starr Foundation of Fayetteville. Making up the rest of the foursome was Jordan Rogers, Neil Phelps, and David Duke (a long‐time CCCC volunteer). Christian Community Care Clinic ——— August 2010 Our donated x-ray machine has bitten the dust...and even all the king’s horses and all the king’s men have not been able to put it back together again….. When CCCC opened in 1999, Saline Memorial Hospital donated not only the use of the building, but also the use of the x-ray machine located in the building….a most gracious gift the clinic could never have afforded on its own. Since 1999, many volunteer x-ray techs and x-ray repairmen, including Carla Hawkins, Lynn Davis, Warren Burleson, and Eddie Langley, have babied this machine to get it to perform even the most simple x-rays ...and have searched x-ray salvage yards high and low to find replacement pieces for broken parts. Sadly, 2010 has proven to be the year of the demise of our old friend, and the year of much disappointment to our doctors and patients alike who have needed this valuable tool for diagnosis and treatment. The best new or used price CCCC has been able to find to replace this machine has been $25,000, not including electrical requirements or building alterations. SO we’re asking for your help, because over and over, since 1999, the Lord has provided SOMEONE with the knowledge or the equipment or the money to fulfill this clinic’s every need. We feel He will also fill this one. Will you help us with a gift for this most important need? or if you have any leads that might help us obtain a free new or used machine, give our direc1970’s - 2010 tor, Gwen Simpson a call….776-1703. When the CCCC lost APN , Lori Wise, to the private health sector, Steve signed up and began volunteering his services to keep the work load from becoming overwhelming on Clinic nights. While volunteering at the Hot Springs Charitable Clinic, Steve was awarded the prestigious Volunteer of the Year Award by the Association of Charitable Clinics. It’s been easy for CCCC to see why. Steve’s ever-willingness to regularly volunteer and his genuine love for helping those who are struggling physically, emotionally, and financially have quickly made him a favorite of both patients AND volunteers. Steve noted that he was drawn to our Clinic because of all the great compliments and praise he heard from the Hot Springs Clinic’s administration. CCCC welcomes Steve, is blessed to have his energetic presence, and already wonders how CCCC ever did without him! Get something for yourself and help the Christian Community Care Clinic, too! Thank Nurse Barb’s Basic Health Tips: EXTRA THANKS FOR EXTRA SPECIAL PEOPLE: Uncontrolled high blood pressure is the #1 risk factor for stroke. The higher your blood pressure, the greater your risk of hear attack, heart failure and kidney disease. People rarely notice symptoms until potentially life-threatening damage has been done to the cardiovascular system. Have your blood pressure checked regularly! The winter freeze caused a pipe to burst in the dental clinic– many thanks to Wendell Simpson Lawn Services for quick clean up, Gregory Plumbing for donated plumbing repairs and to Kevin Pledger and his crew from Saline Memorial Hospital for donating their construction skills to repair ceilings and walls.
