June 2015 - Edmonton Catholic Schools

EDMONTON CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew his masterpiece was
complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

A note from Mrs. Zubot...
Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
It is hard to believe that June is here already.
There is an excitement in the air that is contagious as the weather begins to feel like summer!
It has been a year of learning, growing and reflecting not only for students but for myself as
acting principal as well. Thank you for all of the
support and patience provided to me over this
last part of the school year.
I would like to extend a sincere thank you and
good luck to Mrs. Giacobbo and Mrs. Kindzierski
who are retiring this year. These ladies professionalism and dedication to student learning is
recognized and respected. We wish them well
as they begin a different phase in their lives. It
takes special people to dedicate their lives to
education and to making differences in the
lives of children.
I would also like to thank all of the parents in our school community who have been incredibly giving of their time to volunteer for various activities over the past nine months. We will be
hosting our annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Friday,
June 12th at 8:00a.m. All volunteers are invited to come and
enjoy a yummy waffle breakfast with us that morning!
I love being part of the St. Philip community and I look forward
to the privilege of working together again next year in our combined efforts for continuous growth of our school.
On behalf of the staff, I would like to wish all our families a safe
and relaxing summer. Our first day of classes will be Tuesday,
September 8, 2015.
God Bless!

RUN 4 CHANGE EVENT! -May 29, 2015
This year, our Grade 6 Spring Run Club trained
to run 5K as a social justice initiative. The funds
collected school-wide will be going towards students in Edmonton Catholic Schools who need
school supplies to start their year off right.
Thank you to all of our families who donated
money for this worthy cause! Our Run Club students worked hard to collect pledges and surpassed our goal of $500.00! We are proud of
our school community for helping other students within our own school district. Way to go,
St. Philip School!
We make memories!
Congratulations to Mrs. Chaput! Her name was
submitted by graduating students from Archbishop O'Leary as one of their most favorite
teachers. The graduating 2015 class rec-
ognized her at their graduation.

considered in good taste by the parents/guardians, students and staff of the school. Spaghetti straps, low cut tops, bare midriffs, muscle shirts and short shorts are not appropriate
apparel. If a student is dressed inappropriately, we will contact you to bring a change of
clothing.

SCHOOL TALENT SHOW!
There will be a talent show on Thursday, June 25th at 1:00pm. Does your child have a talent
that they want to show to their peers? We will be showcasing many kinds of talents and will have
an Art talent display. The children will once again be auditioning for their teachers soon. It should
be something that has been practiced at home. If there is music, please make sure that it is appropriate and that the cd is labeled (name and track number) and handed in to Mrs. Warnes no
later than June 19th. If the song is on their device, please ensure it is brought the day of the talent
show. They will need to check with their teachers as to when auditioning day is. If they are doing
art as their talent, Mrs. Warnes asks that any artwork be given to her no later than June 19th for
display. We can’t wait to see the St. Philip talent! As always, you are welcome to come and
watch!
