Recycling – to whom does it matter?
Waste Management & Recycling
To whom does it matter???
Litter
Litter consists of waste products that have been
disposed improperly, without consent, at an
inappropriate location.
To litter means to throw (often man-made) objects onto the ground and
leave them indefinitely or for others to dispose of as opposed to disposing
of them properly.
Waste
Waste and wastes implies unwanted or unusable
materials.
The term is often subjective (because waste to one person is not
necessarily waste to another)
Recycling
Recycling is a process to change waste materials into
new products to prevent waste of potentially useful
materials
(reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage,
reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from
landfilling)
Littering…why do people litter??
Littering- why do people litter
LAZINESS – NO BIN or recycling nearby!
NO sense of OWNERSHIP – NOT my
responsibility (even thought the park, stream
and roads are owned by us!)
Someone else will pick it up – CREATE JOBS!!

Why do people NOT support recycling
“Recycling is inconvenient.”
“I do not have enough space in my home to recycle.”
“If they paid me, I’d recycle.”
“Recycling doesn’t make a difference. So why do it?”
“It is just to hard to do.”
Recycling – reasons why people
should support recycling
saves energy
reduces landfills
preserves our resources and protects wildlife
Recycling is good for the economy (jobs)
