If P3 is full continue straight to the back of the garage, and you will see a ramp on your left which you can use to access the lower levels of parking. • The Wintergarden Elevators are the most direct access into the center of the lobby. • The Hyatt Ballroom Elevators are our second choice, and will take you to the first floor of our Olympic Tower. They are located directly behind the Wintergarden Elevators when you are looking straight at them. • Upon check-in you will receive a parking pass valid for your stay, which will grant you in and out privileges at the gate on paid nights. 11 The SOAP 49th Annual Meeting will be Paperless Printed documents will not be available at the meeting. The 75-minute guided walking tour begins beneath Doc Maynard’s Public House, then spills into historic Pioneer Square, Seattle’s birthplace, before plunging underground for an exclusive, time-capsule view of the buried city. It’s the only way to tour the interconnecting tunnels of the world-famous Seattle Underground—don’t be fooled by imposters. All the while, tour guides regale you with sidesplitting stories our pioneers didn’t want you to hear. It’s history with punch lines! Pike Place Market Open year-round, this is Seattle’s most iconic attraction — and it’s filled with tasty treats. There’s so much to love about Pike Place Market. Aisles of gleaming fruits and vegetables, tables overflowing with fresh floral bouquets, and booth after booth selling all manner of locally made jewelry, clothing and gifts. It’s also a great place to enjoy many fantastic eateries serving prepared dishes. When you’re not sure what kind of food you’re in the mood to eat, just head to Pike Place Market and sample a little of everything or hop on one of several market tours that focus on food, history, or a little of both. There’s also the whole fishthrowing thing, too. Space Needle Most definitely a bucket list item for many, the Space Needle is certainly Seattle’s most iconic structure. Journey skyward for amazing views, fine dining and an experience you’ll never forget. At a height of 605 feet, the Space Needle boasts fabulous 360 degree views that include Mt. Rainier, Puget Sound, the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, the beautiful city of Seattle and beyond. Museum of Flight As the longtime home of major airline manufacturing companies, Seattle is no stranger to the miracle of flight. Little wonder that one of the finest aviation museums in the nation is located here. More than 150 historic artifacts are on display at the Museum of Flight, including the legendary SR-71 Blackbird (capable of speeds up to Mach 3 and altitudes above 85,000 feet), an original Concorde jetliner and the actual 707 jet used as Air Force One during the ’50s, ’60s and early ’70s. Many of the exhibits are hands-on and perfect for kids, including flight simulators, a control tower and the Kid’s Flight Zone, where they can strap on flight gear and test their piloting skills. Seattle Aquarium The Seattle Aquarium features a stunning 40-foot, 55,000-lb. viewing window that looks into a 120,000-gallon aquarium filled with salmon, colorful rockfish, vibrant sea anemones, and other native Washington marine life. Three times a day, divers take to the waters wearing specialized masks that allow them to interact with and answer questions from the audience. Other exhibits include two touching tide pools filled with sea anemones and sunflower sea star, a pacific coral reef exhibit, marine mammals and an underwater dome, the aquarium’s largest exhibit. The aquarium is located on Seattle’s waterfront at Pier 59. Museum of History and Industry From its humble beginnings in 1911, the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) has grown into the largest private heritage organization in the State of Washington with a collection of over 4 million objects, documents, and photographs from the Puget Sound region’s past. MOHAI uses these artifacts along with cutting edge, hands-on interactive experiences to make history come alive through the unforgettable stories of the men and women who built Seattle from wilderness to world-class city. In addition to museum exhibits, MOHAI hosts a variety of award-winning youth and adult public programs and consistently collaborates with community partners on local events and activities. Ultimately, MOHAI strives to connect individuals with the region’s rich history and inspire them to continue to make the community a strong, vibrant, and sustainable place for all to enjoy. 14 Attendee & Guest Activities Wednesday, May 10, 2017 Welcome Reception (Included in attendee and guest registration fee.) 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., SUITE Restaurant/Lounge, Lobby Level of Hyatt Regency Bellevue Mix and mingle with old friends and plan to make new friends at the kickoff event of the 2017 SOAP Annual Meeting. About the Bellevue Arts Museum Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM) is the Pacific Northwest's center for the exploration of art, craft, and design. The Museum's mission is guided by the belief that craft and design are essential to the conversation on art and are equally transformative. From objects made for everyday use to cutting-edge sculpture, furniture, and jewelry, BAM celebrates the creative process, skill, and vision of today's most talented makers. International exhibitions are placed side-by-side some of the region's most promising artists, fostering global exchange and providing a platform for thought-provoking ideas. During the 2017 SOAP Annual Meeting Banquet, The Contact – Quilts of the Sierra Nevada by Ann Johnston will be one of the featured exhibits. The Contact features 30 of Ann Johnston’s largescale quilts inspired by the California Sierra Nevada mountain range. The Sierra Nevadas are a place of power and fascination for many people who have experienced it. The term “contact” is used to describe the place where geologic units touch, and it’s an inescapable theme in Johnston’s quilts. Through this body of work, Johnston explores the sunlit white granite peaks, and the dark mines and machinery of the California Gold Rush. Her connection to the Sierra Nevada is strong—her family has held a mining claim near Tioga Pass since the 1800s—and it comes to life in the exhibition. Johnston uses a broad array of literal, abstract, and purely imaginative imagery. Each quilt is designed and made from cloth that Ann Johnston has dyed, painted, or printed herself, and constructed using a range of construction techniques, some remaining as a whole cloth, others, pieced and appliquéd. These works demonstrate a mastery with which Johnston uses different patterns, textures, and processes in her fabrics to produce fascinating pieces that draw one in, powerful on their own and cohesive as a series. #AnnJohnstonBAM #BellevueArtsMuseum Saturday, May 13, 2017 SOAP Informal Social Event – Beer Tasting in Seattle* (Tickets: $10 per attendee, includes ticket for one complimentary beer) 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. Queen Anne Beerhall 203 W. Thomas St. Seattle, WA 98119 Come and relax with old friends and meet new friends while enjoying a beer at Seattle’s Queen Anne Beerhall. The Queen Anne Beerhall brings an authentic beer hall experience to Seattle. It is a tradition that Europeans have enjoyed for centuries - communal tables where friends and strangers mingle in a lively, friendly atmosphere, energized by a regular schedule of live music. The establishment features a 7,000 square foot hall, 25 premium draft beers and over 50 bottles. The bar offers unique cocktails made with in-house prepared syrups and shrubs. The menu includes classic beer hall fare with Pacific Northwest influences. Don’t miss perfectly executed staples such as soft Bavarian pretzel, wiener schnitzel and a variety of grilled sausages with sauerkraut. The Queen Anne Beerhall is a place to gather, to experience incredible food, music and community. Transportation will be provided to and from Queen Anne Beerhall. Please see the Bus Transportation Schedule on page 13. *All attendees must be 21 years of age to attend event. 15 Registration Form Page 1 *Denotes a required field * r Dr. r Mr. r Mrs. r Ms. ABA # SOAP Member ID # ASA Member ID # __________________________________________________________________________________________ *Badge Name (first name to appear on the first line of the badge) __________________________________________________________________________________________ *First Name MI *Last Name __________________________________________________________________________________________ *Degree *Specialty __________________________________________________________________________________________ *Affiliation (Organization) __________________________________________________________________________________________ *Mailing Address __________________________________________________________________________________________ *City *State/Province *ZIP/ Postal Code *Country __________________________________________________________________________________________ *Business Phone Number Mobile Phone Number Fax Number __________________________________________________________________________________________ *Email *Is this your first time attending the SOAP Annual Meeting? r Yes r Academia r Private Practice r Consulting r Large Group Practice r Retired r Hospital-based r Other_______________________________ _______________________________________ Special Needs r r r Registration Fees (Please see page two and three for details and pricing.)
