January 27, 2017 Science (Ms. Flewelling): Students are reading informational text on sound and light. They will begin to start being able to find evidence to support their answers. Religion: We have learned about the different parts of Mass and Holy Days of Obligation. They will have a quiz over Chapter 10 on Monday. We wrote prayers for the Catholic School’s Week Prayer contest. Winner will be announced on Friday. Social Studies: The students took a test over Chapter 5 on the Northeast states. Test went home today. Math (Mr. Fielder): 3rd– Continued to work on multiplication using arrays and counters to solve problems. Students also were able to write multiplication sentences form arrays. We used commutative properties to make more than one multiplication sentence and array. Students wrote math stories based on multiplication sentences. 4th- Students finished the chapter on using rounding, compensation, partial product in multiplication. Took Topic Five test on Friday. FYI Sign and return report card envelopes on Monday, January 30th. Reading: This week we focused more on finishing our persuasive piece and pronouns. The students had daily opportunities for silently read. Next week, we will begin reading informational texts and stories to expose them for their next writing unit. Words Their Way: New list for next week is attached. Test on the spellings to these words is Friday. English: We finished up learning about pronouns and took a test on Thursday. The students were able to use their notes for this test. Students took the English Aspire test on Thursday. Writing: The students are wrapping up their persuasive piece by using checklists, editing, conferencing with me, publishing, and sharing with the class. Please join our Holy Rosary community at the Spaghetti Dinner on Tuesday from 4-7pm. It is a goodwill donation and all money will go to the 7 & 8th graders Chicago Trip. Please check the Catholic Schools Week Calendar for events and dress for each day next week. If your child is not participating in the special dress for the day, your child needs to be in regular dress code. The virtue this week was Good Judgment.
