Cape Peninsula Attractions
Cape Town and False Bay attractions are fabulous. There is a huge amount of all knds of things
to see and do. We could spend weeks here and still not do it all!
Fish Hoek village, where we are staying, is on the Indian Ocean side of the Cape Peninsula,
only 35 minutes from Cape Town city centre, so we're close to loads of places, besides the fact
that there is a lot to do in Fish Hoek too! Also, being approximately halfway down the Cape
Peninsula, a Whale of a Time is well-situated as a gateway to all the fascinating attractions
offered. From whale-watching and a colony of penguins, to sharks and shark-diving and a boat
trip to see the seals, we plan to see them all. Dive with the sharks and watch the penguins
nesting at Boulders beach - our hosts Anton and Colleen, have organised all sorts of intriguing
adventures for us while we are here. cape town attractions
Close attractions to A Whale of a Time are fabulous. Kalk Bay a small picturesque fishing
village is just around the corner. It has a whole row of quaint little shops and a couple of great
eateries, situated right on the sea, where we can drink the great Cape Wines, eat fresh seafood
and watch the fishing boats coming in. St James is really great for the littlies, with a safe tidal
pool and little changing boxes! Muizenberg has a magnificent beach that goes on for miles, with
surfing and good swimming (Lots of surfers and bikini girls too) .
Towards Cape Point is the historical village of Simonstown, South African Naval base, which is
great fun to visit. We saw the statue of Just Nuisance and visited the Teddy Bear Museum and
bought some wonderful items at the Gemstone Factory. Jim went out game fishing on one of
the boats for charter and caught three tuna!!
A little further on is Boulders Beach, which has a resident Jackass penguin colony. The
penguins come right up onto the beach and among the resident's gardens, where they nest.
Then on to Cape Point, where two oceans meet and where we saw baboons and lots of wild
flowers and animals in the Game and Nature Reserve. We bought a really beautiful soapstone
carving from the African Arts and Crafts village on our way back over the mountains, went to
Witsands to the crayfish factory then to Kommetjie, famous for surfing (large waves), crayfishing
and bird life, past the Solole (Khoi San for Buffalo) Game Reserve with its freely roaming game
and home to Imhoff's Farm, for a camel ride and visit to the snake park. We returned just in time
for late sundowners on our verandah (with a bit of whale-watching and then to dinner down the
road at The Galley Restaurant on the beach at Fish Hoek.
The Cape Peninsula is covered by a multitude of suburbs, like small, defined villages, each one
offering something different and special. Tomorrow we are driving down Atlantic Ocean side of
the Peninsula. Llandudno, Bakoven, Camps Bay, Clifton, Sea Point and Greenpoint are
reached by way of the Chapman's Peak scenic drive which becomes the Main Road leading
right through to Cape Town, the Mother City.
In Cape Town itself there are all year round attractions, like the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway
, The V & A Waterfront, Robben Island - home to Nelson Mandela during his prison years, the
Castle of Good Hope, the Bo-Kaap - once the Malay Quarter. The Two Oceans Aquarium, the
District Six Museum, Green market Square, and Manenberg Jazz Cafe.

Cape Peninsula Attractions
An easy drive from the city takes you to Mostert's Mill, Rhodes Memorial on the slopes of the
mountain, famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, and The Constantia Wine Route - Groot
Constantia Wine Estate once the home of Simon van der Stel, Buitenverwachting, Uitsig, Klein
Constantia and Steenberg, the newest addition.
These are only a few of the wonderful tourist attractions to be seen in Cape Town and
surrounding areas.
