Topic Overview
In this exciting topic we will be learning about the Mayan
civilization and what was involved in their everyday lives.
The children will also be broadening their understanding of
the Mayan culture by looking at Mayan beliefs,
infrastructure and organisation of hierarchies. We will
using our geographical skills and understanding to find
out exactly where the Mayans came from and where this is
in relation to our locality and country. In parallel to this,
the children will be learning about poetry writing,
specifically sonnets. Also in Art, the children will be
researching Mayan designs, how they were produced,
practise skills, then use the skills and knowledge they have
learnt to produce their own version of Mayan art to display
in a gallery. In our science studies we will continue our
investigations into living things, how to classify living
things and use this understanding to investigate the
human body. In music, the children will learn how to record
and read standard notation.
