AS 91103 – L2 Workbook
Create a crafted and controlled visual and verbal text (4 credits)
Student (full name):
What do I have to do?
1. Create several static images that contain developed and sustained ideas.
2. Draw inspiration from either a theme or text(s) studied in class this year.
How do I know if I’ve been successful or not?
• I have completed at least three static images that complement each other (i.e. developed
ideas in a triptych).
How do I DEVELOP ideas in static images?
 Start with ONE main idea that allows progression e.g. the rhetoric for and against war or
the horrors of war.
 Think of ways you can represent an idea such as ‘the horrors of war’
o Literally e.g. image of severely wounded soldier.
o ymbolically e.g. image of massive graveyard.
o Abstract e.g. take some elements that you think essentially represents ‘the horrors
of war’ and then present them convincingly, perhaps in a weird way with the
intention of soliciting some sort of response.
o Use quotes to give extra meaning to the images.
What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?
And each slow dusk
Anthem for Doomed
a drawing down
Youth
of blinds
How could I show I have SUSTAINED ideas in SEVERAL static images?
 Use a motif (a recurring symbol) in all your images e.g. flames to represent passion or a
bird to symbolize potential freedom (flying), happiness (singing), healthy relationship
(nest-building) etc.
 Be aware that JUXTAPOSED images have certain effects e.g. contrast highlights
different moods
