MOMENTUM MARCH 2017 omentum Your monthly update of what’s happening in and through the C&MA in Canada. Living in Expectation Dave Hearn, President of the C&MA Canada God did extraordinary miracles through Paul. Acts 19:11 “…many otherwise orthodox Christians are in effect operational atheists or atheists unawares. To be sure, Christians still affirm the historic creeds, and we say we believe in the Holy Spirit and in prayer and the supernatural, but for many they are now only words.” – Os Guinness Os Guinness’ startling words are a wake-up call to the Western Church. In particular, they are a prophetic invitation to our Alliance family in Canada. A cornerstone of Alliance theology is the firm belief in supernatural things and a supernatural God. Recently, I received the following email from a woman in one of our Alliance congregations: I suffered with a pain in my back for 42 years. With age, my scoliosis became worse, and because of this spot, I could not fully straighten up on the left side, as the pain there caused me to pitch forward in order to relieve it. cmacan.org After being prayed over, the pain disappeared! I was planning on waiting for a week to see if the pain had actually left before telling the news to my small group. A friend who overheard part of the prayer came to me on Wednesday night, saying, "You have news for me, don't you?" At first, I didn’t know what she meant. She was excited and pressed on, "You were healed, weren't you?" I playfully scolded, "Shh, I haven't even told my husband yet." The pain was still gone the next Sunday, and so I shared the news with my pastor and with the congregation. Praise the Lord! A bizarre passage in Acts states, “God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and evil spirits left them” (Acts 19:11-12). The supernatural had become natural, and God’s presence was so anticipated that it was normal to have an expectation for the impossible. A.W. Tozer said, “We must declare war on the mood of non-expectation.” My hope for you is that you will live with an unapologetic expectation of God’s manifest presence, and that you too will experience a fresh taste of the supernatural power of God. The Global Advance Fund (GAF) covers the costs of sending and supporting international workers (IWs) overseas—salaries, benefits, and the costs associated with ministry in various countries. Some is designated to strengthen the sending base, to train IWs. Through the GAF, IWs take the Gospel to least-reached people groups, people who may never have heard the name Jesus. Global Advance Fund Update January 2017 Income: $ 1,874,408 Note: A faith goal figure will be provided after the Board of Directors approves a 2017 GAF budget. Thank you Did you know? The C&MA focuses specifically on sending the Gospel to least-reached people groups (LRPGs)? • 41% of IWs are serving in creative access countries, places where people may be imprisoned or otherwise persecuted for sharing their faith. • 40.4% of the world is leastreached! There are still more than 6,000 LRPGs. • Together, we are bringing the Gospel to people with very little access to it. Thank you for your faithfulness in praying and giving on mission! cmacan.org/give MOMENTUM MARCH 2017 From the Inside Out Dave and Becky, Silk Road Dave and Becky live and serve in the Silk Road region. IWs are sent by our churches in Canada to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in places where His name may never have been heard. Read more stories of life on mission at cmacan.org/stories There is so much ministry beyond our own church centre; however, in order to do it, people must be prepared. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of people crammed together in a small space, away from their homes and families. Many of them are willing to listen to the Gospels when it is accompanied by food, life necessities, and the love of people who take the time to come to them weekly. Some groups are teaching English in a women’s camp; this is a helpful life skill for them. “May God so fill us today with the heart of Christ that we may glow with the divine fire of holy desire” (A.B. Simpson). Beyond building teams to do the work, we also need to build up prayer coverage. Teams need to be built to do various ministries in different parts of the city. The work is great, so the prayer coverage must also be great. Please pray for us as we build these teams to reach out to those who need to hear Jesus’ love for them. Questions? They also have a vision to intentionally lead the next generation to an intercultural church (Rev. 7:9-11; 5:911). Their vision is to be a vibrant church that teaches and recognizes Christ as its foundation. They want to develop committed believers of God’s household (Eph. 2:19). They aim to grow to become a community where God dwells through the Holy Spirit (Eph. 2:21-22).
