Constitution of the
Preamble: We, the Student leaders of the University of Wisconsin System Institutions, establish the following constitution in order to better represent the Students of the University of Wisconsin System Institutions, promote shared governance, improve student advocacy, support the continuity of student governance and further the mission of the University of Wisconsin System. Adopted on October 5th, 2012 at UW‐Eau Claire Amended on October 5th, 2013 at UW‐River Falls Amended on April, 12th, 2014 at UW‐La Crosse This constitution consists of 6 articles: Article I: Name Article II: Membership Article III: Scope Article IV: Meetings Article V: Adoption and Amendment Article I. Name The name of this body shall be known as the University of Wisconsin System Student Representatives Article II: Membership Section 1: Each institution shall have two members. The members shall be the two highest‐ranking students in the student government as selected by the students or student government on each Institution or his or her designee. Membership will also include all members of the Executive Committee. Article III: Scope In accordance with state statutes, Board of Regents policy, prior court decisions, and in the spirit of local governance, the System wide group of Student Representatives is not constituted under the authority of § 36.09 (5) Article IV: Meetings Section 1: Frequency and location. The University of Wisconsin Student Representatives shall meet no less than five times a year. Meeting locations for the next year shall be voted on at the final meeting of the current academic year. Section 2: Procedure. All meetings shall be run according to the most recent edition of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised and adhere to Wisconsin open meetings and open records laws. Article V: Adoption and Amendment Section 1: Adoption. This constitution shall be adopted after a majority vote of present Student Representatives. Section 2: Amendments. All amendments to this constitution may be proposed by any member of Student Representatives for discussion at a meeting. If an amendment gains the vote of 3/4 of all present members of the Student Representatives the amendment shall pass and be adopted.
