2014 No. 400
Fujikura newly built a fiber laser customer lab in Sakura Plant and put it into operation in March, 2014. We have many
customers interested in firsthand experience of fiber lasers. They ask questions such as "What kind of workpiece is
possible with a fiber laser?" and "Can a fiber laser cut and weld this material?" We thus prepared a suitable environment
for various processing experiments and perform demonstrations whenever needed. That helps respond to customer
requests and deepen the customer's understanding of our high performance, high-quality fiber lasers. We will also deal
with various customer needs by offering a broad product lineup of fiber lasers. The products range from a pulsed fiber
laser suitable for micromachining to a high-power kW-class fiber laser suitable for sheet-metal working.

High-flexibility USB 3.0 Cable Assembly
Suitable for Wearable Devices
Fujikura has developed a new cable with more flexibility and ease of storage to expand our product lineup of
small-diameter USB 3.0 cables. In the development, we focused on lack of flexibility in multi-conductor cables
constructed of many shielded pair cables to deal with the increase in data traffic. We also used high-frequency
technology and cable manufacturing technology nurtured through the development of smaller diameter cables. In
addition, we put thought into designing materials for the shield layer and jacket to finally succeed in improving the new
cable's flexibility and ease of use. Even when the cable is connected to a wearable device, which has been increasingly
miniaturized, the device is not lifted by the cable. The cable fits unobtrusively on wearable devices such as head mounted
displays to provide more comfort. The terminals of the cable can be customized to customer specifications or signaling
by taking advantages of features of the cable portion.
The cable is expected to be used in robots for FA (factory automation) and medical use as it is suitable for use in a
device's moving part, where mechanical stress is applied.
