INTERCULTURAL ENGAGEMENT
IN RABAT, MOROCCO

Spelman College, the global leader in the education of women of African descent, and
dedicated to excellence in the liberal arts and sciences, in partnership with CIEE, is offering
a two-week intensive program in Lisbon, Portugal. CIEE, the world leader in international
education and exchange for 65 years, offers students the most comprehensive, relevant,
and valuable study abroad programs available.
ABOUT THE COURSE
This course will help you develop the knowledge, skills, and
understanding to communicate and en-gage appropriately
across cultures, and ultimately become a more eff ective
leader in today’s globalizing world. In addition to honing
intercultural skills that can be used in a wide variety of
situations, you’ll learn about socioeconomic, political, and
cultural issues in Rabat, Morocco. You will also develop a
personal vi-sion statement for engaging in an intercultural
world. The course will include in-class lectures and discussions, cultural activities and excursions, and assign-ments
that will engage you in the local culture.
ABOUT RABAT
Rabat, Morocco’s capital and second-largest city, has
a population of 3 million. Rabat hosts Morocco’s most
prestigious universities, as well as many international
institutions such as UNESCO and the World Bank. The
city off ers a combination of the modern and traditional,
stunning colonial architecture, fascinating ruins, lovely
gardens and green spaces.
COST
$3,400 – includes room and board, site visits and all land
transportation; it does not include international airfare.
BIG SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE!
The first 25 accepted students who have not had a
prior international travel experience while at Spelman
College will receive a $2,200 CIEE-Spelman scholarship
(65% of the cost). Students who have had a Spelman
College international travel experience will receive a $1,700
scholarship (50% off). To keep either scholarship, selected
students must pay a non-refundable deposit of $600
toward the Rabat program by October 17, 2016.
Total payment for first-time travelers must be completed
by November 17, 2016. Payment for previous travelers is due
December 2, 2016.
