DANIEL WRIGHT ELEMENTARY/ VOLUME 2
Ohio State Buckeyes vs
Michigan & Wisconsin !
By: Nick!
This was a big game. Ohio State and
Michigan are the biggest rivals in
college football (and college football
has some pretty big rivals). Ohio State
and Michigan have been waiting all
year for this game. Ohio State beat
Michigan 42-28. Ohio State worked
hard on winning this game they even
lost their starting Quarterback J.T
Barrett with a fractured ankle. This
was a tough game because a lot of
people got hurt like Michigan running
back Drake Johnson who tore his
ACL. Ohio State still won though! !
!
Ohio State played Wisconsin for the
Big Ten Championship. Ohio State
Beat Wisconsin 59-0!! That’s the first
time ever in a playoff game a team
has been shut out! This was the
largest margin of victory as an
underdog in Ohio State history! Third
string QB Cardale Jones had never
started an Ohio State game. Cardale
Jones’ High School Coach, Ted Ginn,
Sr., came to help coach him in
practice. Ohio State running back
Ezekiel Elliott broke away for an 81yard touchdown run at the start.
Cardale won the MVP trophy. He said
this trophy goes to all of us. Ohio
State made it to the top four and will
be playing Alabama next. GO

!
!
By: Sabrina, Cole, Jack and Ryan!
On December 4th, illustrator, Steve Harpster came to our school. We got a
chance to interview him. !
Q: What made you want to be an illustrator?!
Steve: I loved drawing when I was a little kid.!
Q: Will you make any more books?!
Steve: I am working on a fourth book.!
Q: Do you use your talent of drawing in your
everyday life?!
Steve: Yes, I do! I work on lots of different
projects for other companies, like right now I’m
doing some dinosaur puzzles, painting a mural,
and dragons for a lady’s house. I’m always
working and doing illustration projects.!
!
Q: What was your first animal you drew using
numbers or letters?!
Steve: Well, there was a book when I was in first grade by Syd Hoff and he
teaches how to draw using numbers and letters. The first one I drew was a lion
using the number 5. I always remembered how to draw that, and so, I kinda
took the same idea a lot further and now I teach how to draw with numbers and
letters, everything from groundhogs, to dragons and all sorts of characters
using 5’s and numbers and letters. !
!
Q: What was the first book you published? !
Steve: The very first book I published by an actual publisher was a book called
Why I Like Halloween and it sold for a quarter at K-Mart and it was a really,
really short little book.!
!
**A special thank you to Steve Harpster for taking time to visit our school
and to interview with us and share his love of drawing.

Mrs. Bisher!!
By Bella !
Interview with Lego Robotics Club!
by: Ryan and Jack!
Mrs. Bisher is the BEST teacher ever. I love her so
much, she is so sweet. She is the teacher in our Before
SchoolYoga Club. Oh, yeah! If you make her a card or
something she will keep it. She has magnets full of stuff.
So now I am going to tell you about her. Mrs. Bisher is
married and has an almost two year old daughter. She
taught first grade, second grade for one year and third
grade for 10 years. Her favorite grade when she was
little was fifth grade because she loved her teacher. She
went to Dublin Schools Kindergarten through 12th
grade. Her worst class was when she took chemistry at
The Ohio State University. Her favorite activity to do is
yoga. She also likes to watch Ohio State football and
basketball. Her favorite place to go is anywhere with a
beach and an ocean. Her favorite movie is The Wizard
of Oz. And that is all I know about Mrs. Bisher for this
news story!
Funny interview. This time, Jack and I
interviewed ourselves because we are on the
Lego Robotics Club! So this is US being
interviewed this time. Fair, right? Interviewer
being interviewed!!
!
Q: Is this the first year for DWE lego club?!
A: Yes!!
Q: What type of robot do guys build?!
A: We work with Lego Mind-storms.!
Q: Is the club fun?!
A: Sure is!!
Q: Does the robot need a remote to control it?!
A: Well, regular Mind-storms need a remote,
but since we can’t touch the robot in the
competition, we need to program it.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
By: Arooj
Last issue I featured The Shadow Children series by
Margaret Peterson Haddix. We wrote some questions for
her and got in touch with her in Dublin, Ohio.
!Where did you get your ideas for Just Ella and Palace of
Mirrors?
I started thinking about JUST ELLA because of reading
so many fairy tales to my kids when they were little. It
started driving me crazy that the fairy tale characters fell
in love at first sight so much. And it bothered me that
Cinderella had so little control over her life. I started
imagining a different version of the story, and that turned
into JUST ELLA.With PALACE OF MIRRORS, it was a
combination of several different factors. One was that I
thought of an opening line that I loved, and then I made
up the rest of the story to go with it!
!What inspired you to write? Why did you choose to be a
writer?
I was inspired by all the great books I read when I was a
kid. As soon as I realized that real people were actually
behind the books--and actually got to write them--I
thought, "That's what I want to do!”
!What made you think of time
travel in the series Missing?
Once I figured out who the
babies on the plane in the
first book were, I knew there
had to be time travel in the
series. But I love thinking about how time travel
could work, so it was kind of just a good excuse
to play around with time and history.
!Did you base the Shadow Children series off of
the Chinese Law that states families can only
have two children?
I was thinking of the One-Child rule in China.
But I was also just thinking about whether my
husband and I wanted to have a third child
ourselves, and whether concerns about
overpopulation should affect that decision.
**Thank you for taking the time to interview with
us, we really appreciate it!

In 1995, the sport of
volleyball was 100 years
old! The sport has been around for a long time.
Some basic rules are indoor courts are 18m x 9m.
You can get a college scholarship if you are really
good at volleyball. It is fun and you can play it
outside or at the beach! Volleyball is simple to learn
and some schools teach you how to play it. You
can learn it from your sisters or brothers, too! At
Daniel Wright there is a volleyball club, you get to
learn how to play volleyball and practice playing
