• Walking Poster Planner (1 per girl)
• Other decorating supplies (optional)
Preparation:
• Make copies of the Walking Poster Planner
• Print cookie clip art of varying sizes
• For younger girls who may not be proficient
at writing yet, make clip art that has the price
and the words “Girl Scout Cookies”
• Make a mini sample of a walking poster to
display - you might want to make it doll size
from the poster planner and display it on a doll.
Step 1: Plan it
1. Explain that posters are good advertisements. They are a good way to tell people
about the Girl scout Cookies.
2. Sometimes its difficult to find a place to hang posters, so Girl Scouts can solve that
problem when they make and wear Walking Posters!
3. Discuss places where Walking Posters could be worn (booth sales, sporting events)
4. Write down on chart paper ideas generated by girls, of what information should go
on their posters (price, troop #, goals, cookie pictures, words “Girl Scout Cookies”...)
5. Divide girls into pairs or small groups and hand out copies of the poster planner.
6. Using the Walking Poster Planner, have the girls plan and sketch a design for their
Walking Poster. Remind them that they will need to plan both the front and the back
(girls can split up tasks by one girl or team making the front and the other the back)

8. Once the girls have completed the planner, help them choose supplies they need.
9. While they are collecting supplies you could proofread their poster plan for spelling
errors. It would be even better if you could have some of the older girls there to
assist with spelling during the planning stage.
10. You will need to punch holes at the top of each poster, about 1 inch from the top
and 3 – 4 inches from the side, depending on the size of the girl (3” from each side
for a bigger girl and 4” for a smaller girl.)
11. After the girls have completed their posters it’s time to add the ribbons. Tie one end
of a 2 ft ribbon to the front poster, and the other end to the back poster. Repeat for
the other side. Be sure to allow enough room for the girl to place it over her head.
12. Added bonus: This could also be used as an easel sign or hanging
poster when not being worn by a girl.
Step 2: Poster Design
Pass out the ½ sheets of poster board and watch the girls’ designs come to life.
Provide lots of encouragement and give positive feedback.
Step 3: Poster Parade
Once all the posters are complete have a parade to show them off.
FUN TIPS:
 Place girls in groups of two or four and have half of the group work on the
front poster, and the other half work on the back poster.
 In place of the Poster Planner, give each girl a doll sized poster board to
plan her poster. When she creates a full size poster to match her doll
sized poster plan, she and her doll will have matching walking posters!
 An alternative to wearable posters are to mount posters on a stick and
carry it like a picket sign. Make it fun by creating picket sign posters with
unique shapes such as hearts, daisies, cookies or arrows (to direct them to
the cookies),
