Lesson Objective I can identify character traits. Students will identify character traits of main characters and compare/ contrast the character to themselves. Materials The Diary of Anne Frank play The Diary of Anne Frank character notes (from previous lesson) Character traits compare/contrast chart White board Ladybug document camera Activities/ Procedures Class discussion reviewing character traits. Pass out charts and explain the task. Model the task with students by completing characterization of Margot as a group. Have students complete characterization of Mr. Dussel with a partner. Discuss answers as a group. If students provide answers that show understanding, have students complete chart individually. If students are still unsure, complete another character as a group. Have students self-assess their understanding. Assessment Students will self-assess their understanding of the concept/ task. Completion of the chart will serve as an assessment. Higher-Order Thinking Questions: 1. Would the story have been different if… ? 2. How might it have been different? 3. How do you know this?
