Paved the way for community reinvestment
• Created first-in-the-industry intensive psychiatric

supported telehealth treatment and care coordination
and developed mobile intervention teams for individuals
with co-occurring intellectual disabilities and mental
health concerns

Early adopter of integrated specialty care
Reinventing value-based purchasing
• Magellan integrated health home members’ use of
emergency departments for mental health reasons in
Iowa dropped 19%, mental health admissions dropped
16%, medical claims dropped 12%
• Working closely with ACT provider teams, we used a
value-based reimbursement model to ensure fidelity to
evidence-based practices that resulted in a 21% decrease
in inpatient admissions and a 24% decrease in the
inpatient readmission rate
• Developed the nation’s only specialty plan for individuals
with SMI, Magellan Complete Care of Florida, where
more than 43,000 members have had decreased trends
in emergency room and inpatient use. They receive
behavioral and physical health services in a coordinated
manner, also resulting in increased member satisfaction
• Created the Magellan Facility Incentive Program (MFIP)
to balance the disparities between cost and quality
