On Friday 19th June 2015, we will be visiting the National Sealife Centre Birmingham to learn lots of new facts about a range
of marine animals.
English: This term, we will be writing nonchronological reports about different marine
animals. We will also use persuasive
techniques to advertise the Great Barrier
Reef to scuba diving enthusiasts and we will
use
poetic devices to write poetry about the sea.
Maths: We will be revising our use of the 4
main operations of addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division in the context of
problem solving with money and measures.
We will also be revising aspects of fractions
and extending our knowledge further with
addition and subtraction of proper and
improper fractions. We will also look at
measures of weight, length and time and
data handling.
History: We will be learning about different
deep sea explorers from the past and their
discoveries. We will also be learning about
Cornelius Drebbel—the first inventor of the
submarine.
D&T: We will be designing and building a
submarine vessel which is capable of sinking
and rising back to the surface of the water.
We will also make 3D models of deep sea
Computing: We will be using the internet
to research different aspects of our topic
and presenting our findings using
PowerPoint software. We will also be
programming a submarine vessel using
simple commands with Scratch software.
RE: We will be visiting a religious place of
worship.
PE: Skills lessons will be taught by our
Sports Coaches on a Monday this term and
will focus on athletics & sports day skills.
Art & Design: We will be studying a range
of famous artists such as Georgia O’Keefe
and J.Vincent Scarpace. We will be making
observational drawings of fish and shells
and will also be looking at seaside
sculptures and seascape paintings.
Music: We will be learning a range of songs
linked to our sea themed topic
including
‘Yellow Submarine’
Geography: We will be identifying seas and
oceans on a world map and also learning
about environmental issues
affecting our oceans and marine life.
Homework: Weekly Maths and spellings
are sent out on a Monday and must be
returned by the Thursday.

6th July 2015. Raffle tickets for possible
prizes will be given for all projects
completed by then.
