May we pray to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and to the Saints?
We may pray to all those who are with God, and especially to
Mary the mother of Jesus.
In prayer we communicate with other members of our family in
God, our most intimate friends. We can also communicate with
persons who we love. But prayer to Mary and the Saints is not the
same as prayer to God. We do not worship them; rather, we ask
them to join with us in our prayers to God. There is a very
beautiful prayer to Mary, often associated with Our Fther, called
the Hail Mary.

A note from our CSCC chair:
On Thursday, June 4th we held our second community “A Knight
of Luck” family BINGO night. It was a wonderful success and a
great time was had by all! I would like to thank everyone who
donated silent auction items, prizes, basket items and goodies for
the bake sale as well everyone who came out and supported our
school! A huge thank you to all of our helping hands leading up to
and during the night of the event we were able to raise over
$2500.00. With all of your efforts this will allow us to continue to
help the school provide more opportunities for our children.
One of the things I love the most about St Peter’s School is the
sense of family and how we always rally together! I hope everyone
has a wonderful summer and I hope to see you all in September!
God Bless Kristen Penfold.
Be-good-to-yourself Therapy
When you want to take care of someone else in an
inappropriate or excessive way, you probably want to
be taken care of yourself. Use that energy to figure
out how to meet your own needs.

Gospel Reflection
It is easy to see the continuity of themes among the readings and
the Gospel. Jesus, like Elijah and Paul, is also journeying. And,
like Elijah, Jesus encounters a widow whose only son has died.
This son is already in a coffin and is being carried out for burial.
We can only imagine the depth of the widow’s grief. She is not
begging Jesus to do something—it is not clear that she even notices
him, she is focused only on her loss. It is Jesus who notices her.
“He was moved with pity for her.” Did he somehow see in her his
own mother? Did he realize that Mary’s only Son would die too?
Was it his love for his own mother that made him see other women
and their pain more clearly? He stops the funeral procession and
touches the coffin and tells the dead man to rise. And he does!
Now the people around him recognize Jesus as a great prophet.
There is nothing like a miracle to lead the crowd to glorify God. It
is a happy ending to this Gospel story, but of course, it will not
last. The crowd is fickle and perhaps some who witnessed this
miracle were among those who called for Jesus’ death.
Discussion Questions for Gospel
Do you ever notice how many widow stories are in Scripture? Why
do you think they appear so frequently? How does our community
care for widows, widowers, those who experience the death of a
child? What sights move you to the kind of pity that Jesus felt
when he saw the grieving mother? What do you do when you are
moved with pity? The crowd glorified God when the dead man was
raised to life. When do you glorify God? Have you too witnessed
miracles?
