Blending the reedy voice of the clarinet with the rich depth of the cello and the wide range of the piano, this trio features Swiss clarinettist Lux Brahn, virtuoso cellist James Jaffe, and American pianist Ian Scarfe. Their 2017 tours will include 12 concerts across California and 6 more in Switzerland. The trio always takes time during performances to talk to audiences about the music, the composers, and things to listen for in each work, creating a personable and intimate atmosphere. Concert Program: "Beethoven and the Italians" The program will feature Beethoven's Trio Op. 11 - a work that shows the lighter and more humorous side of the composer. Imitating the style of Italian "opera buffa", this work plays out as a comedy between the clarinet, cello, and piano, with the finale a variation on an Italian opera aria. Beethoven shows that he can write lyrical, upbeat, and comedic music! The program will also feature music by Italian composer Nino Rota, who wrote the famous score for the "Godfather" films, and works by Gioacchino Rossini and Franz Schubert.
